REFLECTIONS BY JILL for November 20, 2006

From Jill Berry, for About.com

I did shed a few tears when the family was gathered at Asa’s house and Kevin said good-bye to everyone. It’s too bad the whole family wasn’t there. It would have been nice if they could have waited for Jessica and Natalie to be present. Poor Viki. It’s so hard for her to let her kids go but she’s such a great mom and never stands in their way or pushes her opinions on them. I’m sure that some of Erika’s tears were real during that goodbye because it’s no secret that many of the actors have voiced their dismay over Dan Gauthier being let go from the show. I don’t see why Kevin couldn’t stay for Thanksgiving like Viki asked. Did Dan have to be pushed out the door so quickly? Asa, the old coot, did give a nice toast to his family.

Let’s move on to Todd. I was totally sick of his face and of listening to him this week. He was totally obnoxious and reminded me so much of the Todd I was hoping had changed a little bit. Evangeline was very wise when she told him that if he wanted to hold women to such high standards, he’d better look in the mirror and be honest with himself. I guess he is egotistical enough to believe that that meant he could confess to anything and be forgiven. Did he think that when he told Evangeline that he knew Cristian was being set up she would just say it was okay and move on? And then to top it off he still thought she’d forgive him when he added that tiny fact that he had bet on the fight against Cristian. Is there an end to Todd’s arrogance? I think he was confusing Evangeline with someone who would accept that he does hurtful things to people just for the fun of it. Oh yeah, that would be Blair, right? Todd’s ego is so huge that I’m surprised his head fits through the door. Even after Evangeline gave him the boot and told him they were no longer friends, he had the nerve to look Cris in the eye and accuse him of being jealous because Evangeline really wanted him and not Cris. Cris thinks Todd is in love with Evangeline, but I think he’s wrong, too. Todd won’t let himself take Blair back. He can’t let himself lose face and admit that no matter what she’s done he still wants her. And he’s such a prize! Give me a break, Todd!

And now we have to deal with Cole and his drug induced manic behavior. Oh fun! Poor Starr. I give a huge cheer for Kristen Alderson, whose portrayal of Starr just keeps getting better and deeper. Her performance as devastated Starr at the police station, while she recounted what happened at the party was so real. For all of her wild ways as a child, Starr is still quite innocent in some ways. Who’d have ever thought that Starr would grow up to be the nice girl? From her childhood it always seemed like she’d be a holy terror as a teenager. We always thought Starr would grow up to be like Brittany. Thank goodness she didn’t. Maybe some of that influence from her Aunt Viki sunk in and stuck.

And now Marty Saybrook is back and Cole is actually Cole Thornhart. I can’t wait to see how everyone handles the fact that Starr and Cole are involved and how the kids deal with the history between Marty and Todd.
