REFLECTIONS BY JILL for July 23, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

You have to feel sorry for Starr in this whole mess. On top of having to deal with her mother, with her father missing and wondering how they’re going to nail Miles, she has to deal with that little snip, Brittany, who will do anything she can to torture Starr and Cole. It’s too bad that this time she was carrying the truth, a truth that could hurt Starr more than anything. Starr is so young and for all her bravado, she’s very naïve about some things, one of them being that Cole would never lie to her or betray her, whether it was intentional or not. Like I said last week, Starr doesn’t love anyone as much as she loves her father and forgiving Cole is going to be very far from easy for her.

I have to give Kristen Alderson a huge amount of credit for her portrayal of Starr. In the midst of everything that was going on, when Blair got the news that Marty was arrested for killing Spencer, all Starr could think of was being there for Cole. And she was the only voice of reason when she reminded her mother and Dorian that even though Marty was arrested, it doesn’t mean she is guilty. I got a huge laugh when Starr hit the nail on the head and reminded Dorian that she, more than anyone else, should know what it’s like to be accused of something you might not have done. But I loved the part where Blair chastised Starr for taking that tone with Dorian and Starr just looked at her and sarcastically reminded her, “You’ve been arrested more times than Marty.” Boy, that shut Blair up in a hurry. There was no disputing that statement. But the best line of all was when Starr headed for the door to go to the police station and said, “I have a lot of experience getting parents out of jail.” Isn’t that the truth?

Honestly, I feel sorriest for Cole. He’s just a kid and it wasn’t hard for Miles to convince him that he would send his mother to jail if he didn’t keep the secret about Todd. I hope that Starr will come to understand that Cole loves his mother as much as she loves her father. It was weird to have Dorian be the voice of reason when she came to the police station and tried to tell Starr that she’s sure that Cole never meant to hurt her. You could see that she was trying to get Starr to see the light when she told her that Todd would be very happy that she was no longer with Cole. Right now the reverse psychology is not working for Starr. Miles deserves to get double the punishment he deserves just because he hurt, used and abused these young people in his sick scheme to get Marty to love him.

I’m glad that the truth finally came out between Marty and Cole. Wouldn’t it be nice if just once people on soaps would lay their cards on the table from the beginning? I know that will never happen, but it would be a nice change of pace. It was fun to watch Miles just sitting there taking it all in while his world came crashing down around him. He really never thought Cole would blow the whistle on him and that just goes to show how really demented he is. He should remember Marty’s words when she told him countless times that he had no idea what love is.

John could barely contain his fury where Miles was concerned. You could tell that John just wanted to rip his throat out. I’d like to see him get the chance.

And of course we know that Marty didn’t kill Spencer. I thought Dorian looked a bit guilty the other day when she was talking about Marty confessing. Honestly, my money is on Renee as Spencer’s murderer. I just get a bad feeling that with Asa leaving the world next month, Renee will be the likely suspect. But I’m never right so I’ll be shocked if I am right this time.

And when is Natalie going to wise up? She needs one of those light bulb moments like Adriana had, because when it comes to Miles, Natalie is blind. Even though she was at the police station and knows what Miles is accused of, she still wants to give him the benefit of the doubt. It would have been nice for once if she just shut up and listened to John when he warned her that Miles was trouble. All she can see is her dislike for Marty and that is based purely on jealousy. It’s obvious that Natalie still has very strong feelings for John and it is also obvious that he has those same feelings. I think these two will always have that special bond of caring for and taking care of each other. I wish it could be more, but who knows? Marty seems to be under John’s skin at this point, so maybe we just have to ride it out and see where it goes.

And wasn’t it convenient that Todd just happened to drag himself to a spot where he could find a cell phone that still had a signal? I was wondering whether or not Dorian would even tell Blair that Todd called, but even Dorian knows that she’d never get away with keeping that little tidbit of information from Blair. And Todd will finally be reunited with his family next week. That should be interesting.

So, now Cristian is going to be stuck with Sarah living with him. What did he do to deserve that honor? They should just shackle her to a bedroom in Llanfair and alleviate the problem.

And in conclusion, we have Bo, the chick magnet. I still think Bo is one of the most adorable characters in Llanview and I think it’s so cute that the ladies are still after him. It was pretty funny when Paige showed up with a box full of cream puffs and five minutes later Lindsay showed up with a box of the same exact thing only in a different flavor. Here’s what is funny, or not so funny, depending on how you look at it. As it is, we never see Bo eating anything but burgers and fries and now the ladies in his life bring him boxes of pastry. And Paige is a doctor. Is anyone worried about this 50-something man’s arteries? Hey ladies, we love Bo and we don’t want to see you kill the poor guy. Maybe you could feed him some Omega 3’s and give him an occasional cream puff for dessert. His Pa is not going to be with us much longer, but we want Bo around for a long time.

See ya next week.
