Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for June 23, 2008

From

David Vickers

Copyright by ABC Daytime, 2008
Right now, Sarah is lucky to have Cristian on her side so that Tina doesn’t run over her. For now, Sarah will do anything to help Tina and little David Vickers (LOL) and that will probably blow up in her face before too long, especially with Jonas after Tina, knowing that Sarah could be her weakness. Carlo Hesser will not be far behind and Sarah will be the one with her life on the line.

And speaking of David Vickers, could it get any more hysterical than David marrying Addie? Of course Dorian thinks Addie has lost her mind again. I guess that’s easier than admitting to herself that David left her at the altar but was willing to marry her sister. So Blair rushes over and smashes David in the face for messing with her mother but like I always say, Addie is the sanest person on that show. She was very quick, when Blair told her that David doesn’t love her, to admit that she doesn’t love him either. This was just something she added to her list of things she wanted to do and she and David know exactly what they are doing and why they did it. I died laughing when Addie said, “David knows his ticket to ride depends on him pleasing me.” Addie is surely no fool when she says that David is a hunk and she knew what she was doing. Go Addie! The funniest part of it all was David’s comment when he assumed he and Addie would take over a wing at LaBoulaie and Dorian told him he won’t set one foot in her house. David told Addie, “Don’t worry honey, if Dorian kicks us out, Viki will take us in.” I love it; that hit Dorian where it hurts. And let’s not forget David saying to Blair, “You can call me daddy now.” Imagine that!

Oh boy, Starr wants to give her baby up for adoption and she wants to give it to Marcie and Michael. I have to say that I felt so sorry for Cole when Starr told him about her plan. Cole wants to marry her and that’s not even an idea that’s on her radar. Starr is being realistic when she admits that they are kids and can’t take care of a child right now. Whether you’re someone who agrees with Starr’s choices or not, I give her credit for thinking of the everyday life of caring for a baby and feeling that she’s not ready. It was very sad for Cole when he told Starr that it was different for her because as crazy as hers is, she still has a family and he has no one; then she reminded him that he still has her and he said, “Not if you do this.” I think Starr was shocked at the implication that Cole would walk away if she gave up his child, but that exactly what he did.

The scenes between Marcie and Starr were very powerful. I think Starr feels very torn right now and doesn’t know what to do and as desperately as Marcie wants a child, she knows that she can’t possibly get involved in something that will keep Todd in her life. It’s a sad situation for all involved.

I liked Cole’s scenes with John. Cole wants that baby and doesn’t understand what Starr is doing. It’s so good that Cole has John to talk to and John did just the right thing by listening to him but not telling him what to do. Cole justifiably thinks he can be a good father to that baby like his parents were to him and John was very wise in presenting both sides, reminding him that just as he is doing what he thinks is best for the baby, so does Starr.

And little does Cole know that his mother is right across town in the clutches of none other than the psychopath of Llanview, Todd Manning. I hate the fact that he is holding Marty and keeping her away from everyone so that he can use her to his advantage. Marty has no memory of her former life, let alone who Todd is and he just loves that, but Marty is intuitive enough to know that Todd is someone she did know and might not want to be around. Just by his body language she could tell that he was waiting for a reaction when she heard his name. And leave it to Todd to use everything to his advantage. I wasn’t at all surprised that he told her that John was a bad man who left her to die. I hope Nurse Janet gets some guts and blows Todd’s world apart. She may be terrified of him right now, but you can tell she’s no fool, like when he told her to get Marty’s dinner and fix him a drink and she said, “I’m a private nurse, not a maid.

I am glad that Susan Haskell is back and I want Marty and Cole reunited, but having her with Todd is awful. Todd has done this before (with Nora) and he sure knows what it feels like to be held hostage and kept from your family (with Margaret), so holding Marty for his own sick agenda is doubly disgusting. But what else is new? Todd is slime and he’s a pig and I expect nothing more than watching him roll around in the proverbial mud.

I had to laugh at Dorian offering Gigi a job. Now that would be some team. I loved Gigi’s response when she said, “No freakin’way.” I have to say that I was totally shocked to find out that Shane was the one who put that note in Rex’s folder saying that Adriana lied to him. Yikes! Shane gives new meaning to the phrase “out of the mouths of babes.”

I guess by now most people have heard about the upcoming 40th Anniversary episodes in July. Starting on July 21st for three episodes, Viki will be in a car accident and will visit Heaven. This time around, Heaven will be a high-rise apartment building and she will travel each floor seeing someone else from her past. Some of the people she will see are Asa, Mel, Cord, Megan (not sure about Jessica Tuck) and YES, you guessed it! MY BELOVED BEN!!!! Of course, I am always dying to see Mark Derwin in anything and I have to say that getting a tiny taste of Ben might just make me that much sadder when he’s gone again. HOWEVER, I’ll admit it. A little bit of Ben is a whole lot better than no Ben at all so I look forward to seeing that show and giving my DVR the rewinding workout of its life! I have some consolation in the fact that Mark Derwin will be on a new show starting in July on the ABC Family Channel and just like when he was on Life with Bonnie, I will be watching, good or bad, every single show.

See ya next week.
