REFLECTIONS BY JILL for June 4, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Okay, how ridiculous was Nash’s explanation of how he was able to track down Antonio? For the life of me, I couldn’t wait to find out how he figured out that Antonio was in Spain and where he was staying. But the answer was even dumber than I imagined it would be. I just sat shaking my head when Nash told Antonio that he had broken into his apartment and found the codes for his credit cards. Let’s all holler out a big GIVE ME A BREAK! I often wonder if the actors have a hard time saying these lines when they are so ridiculous. Just like when Paige burst into the room and revealed the “miracle” that not only did they have one match for Jessica’s liver, but that Viki AND Antonio were matches.

I really did feel bad for Antonio. I mean how much is this guy supposed to take? He’s just had his life and his daughter’s life shattered by Jessica and Nash and before he even gets a chance to breathe, he has to make the decision to put his own life in jeopardy to save Jessica’s. Of course, I don’t think any of us doubted that he’d do the right thing, but he sure deserved some time away and alone to lick his wounds and help Jamie deal with everything. The bottom line is that deep down under all the anger he loves Jessica and would never refuse to help save her life.

And did anyone think that Antonio would take that deal from Nash when he said that if Antonio saved Jessica’s life he’d walk away from her? Antonio is way too proud to accept such an offer and it was a sign of how desperate Nash is that he would even make such an offer. I’m sure even Nash doesn’t think Antonio would want to try get back together with Jessica under those circumstances. It was hard for Antonio to hear but Nash was completely on the money when he said, “My Tess and your Jess died on the day they were integrated and the woman lying in that hospital bed is not the woman you fell in love with.” Antonio knows that but who could blame him for not wanted to hear a word Nash has to say.

I have to say that watching Jessica tape that video for Bree just in case she didn’t live to see her grow up was the biggest tearjerker I’ve seen on this show in a long time. It was heartbreaking to watch and I was only sorry that Viki had to walk in and hear it, too. She never gets an emotional break, does she? We knew that Viki would be a match for Jessica and it’s so obvious that she has never been able to deal with the guilt she has, believing that she caused Jessica’s DID. That was evident when she told Jessica that she wanted to be the donor because she was the reason Jessica was in this situation. It was such a poignant scene when Viki asked Clint, “If I want to risk my life and do it why can’t I” and Jessica replied, “Because you’ll break my heart.” Jessica is being very brave in all of this and hopefully it helped a little when she told Viki that she had no regrets in her life because if things had been different she wouldn’t have Nash and Bree. I shed plenty of tears that day. Hey, I figure that if we can’t get enough great romance, then a good cry will have to suffice. And when I have to watch a character I have always loved receiving the last rites (even though I know she’ll live), I can’t hold back the tears.

I know I say a lot of unkind things about Clint, but I will say that I think he’s great with his kids. His time with Jessica, although it brought me more tears, was so nice to watch. I loved the story he brought up about when she was a little girl and was thrown from her horse and vowed to never let a horse throw her again. What a great line he had when he said, “Jessie, this is just another horse.” I don’t forget the fact that he’s in terrible pain over Jessica’s illness also and he’s trying to be strong for everyone.

And just to break up the sadness a little bit, I thought I’d die laughing at Roxy when she came by the hospital to visit Jessica and offer her a free manicure to make her feel better. She says such outrageous things and nobody else could get away with saying them except for Roxy, like when she looked at Jessica and said, “Baby, you look a little yellow; not a good color for you.” And her best line was, “Yo, so this is where I sign up to hand over my liver?” I couldn’t stop laughing at the thought that even the best doctors in the world couldn’t wring out enough booze from Roxy’s liver to make it useful for anything and just when I was thinking that very thought, Roxy said, “I have the most interesting liver in all of Llanview.” That was surely the understatement of the century and the best part of it all was that it made Jessica smile.

So Marty thinks she murdered Spencer. It was nice to see Anna Holbrook, who is playing Marty’s shrink, Dr. Young. She was one of my favorites for years on Another World. Anyway, whether or not Marty did kill Spencer, I’d like to know the reason why two supposedly good psychiatrists, Marty and Dr. Young, don’t see anything to be wary about where Miles is concerned. And of course in true soap opera fashion, it was more than easy for Miles to steal that tape that Dr. Young made of Marty’s confession. And even though the tapes were in a locked cabinet, what kind of idiot shrink leaves confidential tapes with patients’ names on them in a glass cabinet for everyone to see? And why would she leave Miles, a total stranger, in her office alone even for a minute? Again, everyone scream, GIVE ME A BREAK! And of course when the doctor came back into the room and caught Miles behind her desk she just automatically believed that Miles had to walk all the way around the desk to turn off the tape recorder. Roxy would make a more responsible counselor than this woman.
