From Jill Berry

REFLECTIONS BY JILL for April 16, 2007

Well, you just knew that court appearance for Jamie’s adoption was going to be a disaster. What a horrible time for Jessica to come to her senses. I have said from the beginning of the Jess/Tess storyline that I loved Jessica and Nash together and I still really want that to happen, but the cost has become so high. I really don’t think Jessica should have let the situation go on for nearly as long as she did, but it was more than obvious that a huge battle was being waged inside her. It’s a real shame that so many family members have to be hurt by this and none more than little Jamie.

I have always felt that from the beginning, the problem with Jessica was that she really didn’t have enough time after her integration to come to terms with the new person she had become. And by the way, her integration was done so quickly that I thought it was a bit unrealistic, but as in some other storylines on soaps, no one likes to see people sick for a long period of time so they do rush through some things while dwelling forever on others. Jessica has to take the majority of the blame for what happened, even though Antonio should have been more suspicious of her feelings a long time ago. I can’t say I blame him too much though, because let’s face it; he’s deeply in love with Jessica and she felt that way about him so he did kind of put the blinders on when all the red flags went up. He saw what he wanted to see and Jessica was constantly battling with her new personality with Tess included and her Jessica personality that has such a hard time hurting anyone.

Cristian sure was put in a difficult position. I know he has always wanted to prevent Antonio from being hurt and thought Antonio should know what was going on between Jessica and Nash, but now that he has the chance to spill the beans it’s obvious that even though he thinks it’s wrong for Antonio to be in the dark, it’s also hard for him to be the one to hurt him with the truth. Now Antonio is demanding the truth and sadly, he’s going to get it.

The breakdown that Jessica had at the quarry was a long time in coming and something we should have seen happen to her when she first confronted her past and started having Tess’s feelings and memories. You had to figure that when she really confronted her true feelings there would be a major explosion. And to tell you the truth, the only person who had no delusions in this situation and always called things exactly the way they were, is Nash. He was put in a horrible situation from the beginning and I was not surprised when he went to Clint and begged him to stop Jessica from adopting Jamie. Nash doesn’t have any real allies in Llanview except maybe Layla and Clint has always been fair and kind to him. I’ve never had a problem with sympathizing with Nash.

At any rate, I love the drama and I am having a hard time remembering the last time we got to see two people really in love like Nash and Jessica. There is something about that “tortured lovers” thing that really gets to the heart of why lots of us watch soaps. I don’t know about you, but I hope they can make it work and be together without destroying too many others in the process. I loved the way they used the flashbacks, especially when Jessica was alone with Nash at Llanfair before her wedding. It reminded Jessica of everything she’s been through and all the signs along the way that proved how confused she really was. And it reminded her that every word of warning from Nash about how she would regret her decision to go through with the wedding turned out to be right.

And wouldn’t you just know it? When Jessica and Nash finally got together in that horrible storm, we had a breaking news story here on the east coast and I missed all but the last seconds of the love scene. Hey, I only waited a year and a half for Jessica to come to her senses. Just my luck! I do wish New Jersey’s Governor Corzine a speedy recovery from his car accident. Supposedly he will be fine after a difficult recovery period.

Wasn’t it great having RJ back, even if it was just for a while? Boy, when you watch someone like Tim Stickney on screen and see how powerful he is as an actor, you realize how sorely he is missed since he was taken off contract. There are so many layers to the character of RJ and since Jamie came along, there’s a wonderful, caring side to him that’s really nice to see. We need him back all the time.

And was anyone surprised that Blair showed up on that plane to go to Chicago with Todd? Not me. I also wasn’t surprised how hard Evangeline fought to go with him even after he told her he didn’t want her along. He was afraid that something might go wrong and he didn’t want her being in the middle of it and she just continued to argue with him. But Blair did hit the nail on the head when she told Todd that the real reason he didn’t want Evangeline there was because he wouldn’t be free to do anything illegal. I continue to be amazed at how Evangeline is willing to drop everything that is important in her life to try and save Todd’s life. I thought it was silly that she insisted on going with him saying, “You need me.” She’d never be able to stop him from getting in trouble anyway. It’s his nature to find trouble or make it himself. If Evangeline continues to concentrate of saving Todd from himself, she’s heading for major problems in her life. And let’s face it; Blair will do anything to help Todd, including anything illegal, without a second thought. Evangeline has already gone to jail for Todd and nearly lost her career once. Why does she think it’s worth it?
