REFLECTIONS BY JILL….Well, New Year’s Eve on One Life To Live was surely interesting, wasn’t it? Did you wonder, as I did, how everyone remained stuck and stranded in the snowstorm and Renee managed to breeze her way up to Asa’s lodge in no time flat? Boy, they sure need a continuity expert on that show, don’t they?

Anyway, New Year’s Eve was quite interesting, wasn’t it? It’s interesting how they keep finding ways to put Kelly and Duke into compromising positions. I thought it was totally believable that in the middle of a freezing snowstorm, Duke would use his jacket to throw under the tires for some traction and then have to take off his soaking wet shirt, leaving him half naked in the car with no heat. Hmmm….I’m sure that’s happened to all of us at one time or another, right? NOT!!! I’m not the least bit surprised that Kevin is having suspicions about his son and his fiancé…I would, too.

And Adriana and Rex certainly made good use of their time stuck in the snowstorm. There is real chemistry between theses two kids, for sure….a lot more chemistry than Adriana ever had with Duke and a ton more than the non-existent chemistry Adriana had with River. It’s too bad we had to see Rex in that old soap-opera eavesdropping fiasco where he didn’t hang around long enough to hear the end of Adriana’s conversation with Dorian…..where she said she wanted to be with Rex no matter what. I get very tired after a while of that old crossed-signals storyline where everyone jumps to the wrong conclusions.

I was glad that Adriana finally broke up with Duke…at least there is some honesty going on there. It’s about time. And Adriana was smart to tell Dorian that she’d rather be alone than run back to Duke and be with someone she doesn’t want to be with. Hmmm…her mama could take lessons from her. At least Dorian was decent about consoling her daughter this time…I liked seeing that.

Did you get a sense of déjà vu when Evangeline and John were enjoying that bottle of champagne at the police station? Hmm…it reminded me of that first date they had…oh wait, that wasn’t a date…that was the night they first got “acquainted” over a couple of bottles of wine in a stranger’s apartment. I was glad that didn’t happen again…I’m sure lots of people were hoping it would.

Can you say “awkward?” That’s the word I’d use when Cristian and Natalie ran into John and Evangeline in Angel Square. And can I say that Cristian has been very annoying lately…so sure of himself that Natalie still loves him and will want him back. Of course she still loves him…or the memory of what he once was to her…but I don’t like the approach he’s been using, thinking that just because she’s currently his wife he can use manipulative tactics to get her back. I know he’s hurting and loves her and wants her back, but he’s going about it in all the wrong ways. Natalie’s feelings are all over the place and Cris needs to back off a bit.

I don’t actually know what annoys me more…Cristian’s bulldozer approach or John’s total withdrawal. Something tells me John won’t be hanging back for long. I think it’s funny that Natalie finds it weird that he’s totally pulled back, too. I have to say that I do feel very sorry for Natalie. She’s been so hurt that she doesn’t know which way to turn. Those two boys have really messed up her head this time and I think she’s being smart to stay away from any decisions right now, except for the divorce…which I think is a good idea.

I’d say that John’s first therapy session was a major bust, wouldn’t you? Not that I expected any more from John than we got, but hopefully the next session will be more productive. If I were that therapist, I’d wear a hockey mask for the next session…especially since John has been practicing his boxing skills lately.

And now to the biggest hoot on New Year’s Eve….ahem….I guess the romance…or the re-romance…or the here we go again romance…of Clint and Viki has begun. What can I say? I can soooooo live without this. But I am getting a huge kick out of Dorian going after Clint and loving the fact that she’s getting Viki’s goat every step of the way. Viki certainly isn’t being very discreet if she wants to appear not to care that Dorian wants to date Clint. And Viki/Niki and Clint were both rattled by that kiss at the Palace Bar. I had to laugh when Niki wanted to get away from Clint before the stroke of midnight and said “When midnight rolls around I want a kiss and you ain’t gonna be on the other end of it.” Wrong Niki! Personally, I was hoping that when Clint pulled her close, Ben’s heart would have pounded so hard against him that he’d be rocked back on his heels…lol…but then again, I don’t really believe that Viki is carrying Ben’s heart in her chest, do I?

I supposed Dorian’s disdain for the Buchanan men doesn’t extend to Clint…or else it tickles her fancy so much to annoy Viki that she doesn’t care that Clint is a Buchanan. In any case, I think it’s a hoot to watch Dorian go after Clint…but I don’t enjoy seeing Viki jealous over it.

It was interesting watching Spencer and Michael at the hospital when Michael figured out that Kevin had some kind of virus in his spinal fluid. I think Spencer may have underestimated Michael’s talent as a doctor. Spencer didn’t seem too happy that Michael appeared to figure out what was wrong with Kevin. And now we know that whatever Spencer injected Kevin with could make him sterile. Was that the way he was going to get back at yet another Buchanan after he operated on Kelly and cleared the way for her to become pregnant? Wow, Spencer gets slimier every week…just when you think he can’t get worse.

And who is the woman in the picture that Spencer gave to Asa? Obviously, she’s is or was someone close to Spencer (his mom?) who was badly hurt by Asa. Nothing like a lifelong hurt to make someone like Spencer seek revenge at any cost.

Can I shamefully admit that I enjoyed that sparring session between John and Cristian? I know I shouldn’t have enjoyed it so much, but it was one way for John to get his feelings out and show Cris that he wasn’t out of the race. I think that given the chance, Cristian would have liked to rip his head of. Cristian is no fool…he knows that John and Natalie mean a lot to each other and he knows that they were together in one way or another ever since he first disappeared. He has reason to worry and be jealous.

OK, I have just about had it with Antonio. I know…I know…he loves Jessica and thinks he has to protect her from Nash…and finding out about the restraining order against Nash didn’t do anything to dissuade him from hunting Nash and Tess down like dogs. I hear we’re going to meet Claudia Reston, the girl that Nash hurt. She’s going to have a recurring role on the show and that will be an interesting turn of events.

And are you really impressed by the fact that they’re going to do a paternity test to see who is the father of Jess/Tess’s baby? As if those test results won’t be altered and switched ten times before we learn the truth…when the child is about fifteen years old.

Let’s talk about Hugh for a minute…you know, that guy I kept insisting was so adorable. What the heck has gotten into him lately? He was more than obnoxious and inappropriate in that courtroom the other day. I couldn’t believe the way he was enjoying his little victories against Evangeline and Todd…and the way he sat there and smirked openly when he scored extra points after Starr’s outburst in court. And poor Starr…you have to feel sorry for that kid…it’s a miracle that she can still walk outside and hold her head up after what her life has been like as the daughter of Todd and Blair.

I am enjoying seeing Michael and Marci getting closer and word has it that they will marry this year. Finally! There’s so much between these two that it would have been a shame to tear them apart for good.

And finally…who doesn’t wish they had a crazy mom like Roxy to sit around with, have ice cream, and talk about the sexual opportunities you let get away. I died laughing when Rex went to talk to Roxy and she was shocked that he didn’t “go through with it” with Adriana in the car on New Year’s Eve. She had me laughing when he told her that nothing happened and she said, “WHY NOT? WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?” Do you think Rex understood Roxy’s advice to seize the day when she told him, “CARPET DIEM?” Imagine the world if everyone had a dear old mom like Roxy!

See ya next week….

FAN FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS

Chauncey writes: "I'd like to say for the record that you are obviously a Nat and John pusher and have not taken notice of the train wreck that was Jolie (Natalie and John). John does love Evangeline otherwise what other purpose would she serve in this quad that they have between John, Nat, Van, and Chris? When John opened that folder this week New Year's Eve BOTH Nat and Van's pics were in there. Evangeline is not the eternal victim so it cannot be that John wants to save her due to his OBVIOUS hero complex. Nat has always been the one he saves. So what purpose does Van have to still be on John's mind and thoughts if not that she is the love of his life that he let get away?"

Dear Chauncey: A Nat and John PUSHER? Jeez, that makes me sound like I sell drugs or something. Come on, be nice! For the millionth time, I never said John didn't love Evangeline. In his own way, or course, I think he does. As I've always said, John loves Evangeline and Natalie in different ways and his head is not screwed on straight as far as either one of them is concerned. I just think there's something in him that won't let go of Natalie and I think that bond is stronger than the one he has with Evangeline. And just because Evangeline is part of the equation doesn't mean she is the love of John's life. Look at Adriana, Duke and Rex. They are all part of their triangle and Adriana clearly is not in love with Duke, but she has special feelings for him. All I can say is that if Evangeline is the love of John's life that he "let get away" then now that he has the perfect opportunity to get her back, why doesn't he? Love takes many forms…I just don’t think the love John has for Evangeline is the one some fans think is the “love of my life” kind.

AGard47 writes: "I am wondering why John hasn't pursued the relationship with Natalie. Chris seems to be in contact with Natalie constantly and is always trying to persuade her to be his wife again. But where is John, trying to befriend Evangeline? It just annoys me that he has completely backed away from Natalie instead of trying to be with her again. I agree with you that he has deep feelings for her. I hope they end up together."

Dear AGard47: I think it's pretty obvious that John feels a huge responsibility and guilt for Natalie's hurt…and rightfully so. It's also obvious that he can't stop thinking about Natalie and don't forget that he made it very clear to Cris that he will not be able to back off the way Cris wants him to. John knows Natalie needs time but I don't believe for a minute that he has given up on her. I think his therapy will be very interesting and will open him up to his feelings about everything in his life. Everyone in this situation needs time to heal...John, Natalie, Cristian and Evangeline.

Cheryl writes: "Who is the character playing the IA-Internal Affairs shrink dealing with John McBain? I believe he use to be on CBS soaps. Am I right?"

Dear Cheryl: Good eye! Yes, you certainly are right. The actor’s name is Scott Bryce and he played Craig Montgomery on As the World Turns for many years.

POP3 writes: "While I enjoy the scenes with Hugh and Marcie, am I the only one that detects a fair amount of chemistry between Hugh and Evangeline? I really think they would make a great couple especially when Marcie goes back to Michael. By the way, while a lot of attention has been focused on Natalie's choice between John and Cristian, I think Marcie's choice between Hugh and Michael will be just as difficult."

Dear POP3: I can see a fair amount of chemistry between Evangeline and Hugh (as does her sister, Layla) and I suppose a lot of it comes from them going at each other for Todd's murder trial. We're seeing a side of Hugh we haven't seen before. I'm not sure about pairing him with Evangeline. Maybe if he stops smirking and gloating over the case I might think he's good enough for her. Right now, he's not tops on my list and I'm thrilled that Marcie and Michael are headed back together. Word has it that this year Evangeline will find the love of her life…who will it be?
