Hugh returns to the police station with the safety deposit box, John riffles thru it and finds the picture – to which he has to act surprised. John finds something else – a letter addressed to Todd’s baby, written by Spencer, explaining the extenuating circumstances (e.g., Margaret’s sickness, Todd’s demeanor). John brings in a handwriting expert to compare the letter and a prescription written by Spencer. The expert is certain that the note and the prescription were written by the same person. Nat rushes in and takes John aside, she explains what happened when she confronted Spencer. John is upset, thinking that if Spencer is on to Blair she might become his next target.

Todd revels in the fact that he knew he was right, Blair apologizes over and over again for what she did but makes it clear that she did everything for Todd. Todd understands why Blair did what she did but can’t bring himself to tell her that he loves her. Blair explains that she knew all along Todd was innocent but had to keep up her front with Spencer, explaining that now Spencer believes that she is the only one he can trust – she tells him about the safety deposit box. Todd wants to know if she’s really going to go thru with the wedding, Blair doesn’t plan on it but has to keep pretending until they can put Spencer in jail. Todd breaks down crying and finally kisses Blair. . .
