Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for December 3, 2007

I guess it’s about time that everyone started running into each other in Paris, Texas. After all, how big can that town be? You can’t make a move in Llanview without everyone knowing about it and Paris seems even smaller. It figures that Viki would be alone in the diner when David decided to waltz in. I have to say that Viki and David have one of the most fun relationships on the show and I’m just sorry that David won’t be around on a more permanent basis. There is just something about Viki that makes David behave himself and dream that he could be a better man but I love the fact that she can’t tame all the naughtiness out of him. It was a riot when he saw her in the waitress’s uniform and all he could say was, “Don’t tell me you’re wearing clogs!” It never even dawned on me that he would think she was Niki, but that does make sense.

It’s pretty funny that he slept on Viki’s motel room floor and it certainly is no hardship to me that David’s favorite fashion statement is a towel. Who looks better in that particular garment than he does? What I find the funniest though, is Viki’s reaction to David’s quips. No matter how silly he is or what outrageous comment he comes up with, she just gives him “the look” or the “Oh, David” and goes about her business as if nothing affects her. You’ve got to love the comedy team of Viki and David, especially when she tells him to go and get dressed and when he starts taking off the towel, she yells, “In the bathroom, David” to which he responds, “Oh, I hate getting dressed.” Hey David, we hate it when you get dressed, too, but you look mighty fine in clothes as well as in a towel. The powers that be should find a way to keep Tuc Watkins around. They sure can save a lot of money since he doesn’t need much wardrobe.

And now David is in Marcie’s face when they meet on he doorstep as he tries to steal her groceries. I was more than a little surprised that he didn’t recognize her at first but the light bulb sure went on for David when Viki talked about Marcie being on the run with Todd’s son. I guess David is not that grown up yet because he’s going to try to blackmail Marcie for the million dollars that Todd is offering for a reward.

So, Clint dumped Dorian and Charlie just happens to find out that his son is at Asa’s ranch, so he heads over there and finds Dorian lying in the road half-conscious. Leave it to Dorian to go from being helped by a stranger, to taking him back to Llanview with her on a chartered plane and putting him up at La Boulaie. This woman works fast. You have to laugh at the irony. Viki winds up with David for the night and Dorian winds up with Charlie. I don’t think I can wait to see the fireworks when Dorian finds out that Charlie is Viki’s “new man.” It was pretty funny to see Charlie in the midst of all the mania at Dorian’s house as Starr, Blair and Dorian discussed Todd, Tommy, Cole and Marty missing and the FBI on the case with John. He was very polite, but if I were Charlie, I would think I had walked in on a scene from a bad sitcom. When Charlie left Dorian’s house, I wanted to yell, “Run Charlie. Get as far away from this woman and her crazy family as possible. SAVE YOURSELF!”

So Jared is Charlie’s son. For a minute there we were led to believe it could have been Nash, but not so. I am interested in finding out just what kind of a relationship Charlie and Jared had before their estrangement and how it will affect Jared’s plot to be a Buchanan. And as for Jared, I figure that eventually he will wind up in a happily ever after situation with Natalie (for as long as happily ever after lasts on a soap) if he hangs around, but in the meantime, he’s obviously going to make as much trouble as he can for the Buchanans. Although he did hesitate for a tiny moment, he wasn’t too bothered by the fact that Nigel reminded him that posing as Asa’s son would make him give up the chance to have a relationship with Natalie since he’d be her uncle. Ewww! I was surprised that Bo and Clint even gave Jared’s plea a bit of credence when he insisted that he didn’t want to be Asa’s son. Poor Nigel nearly swallowed his teeth trying to hold back what he really wanted to say about Jared. You have to love Nigel, even though is words fell on deaf ears when he told Jared, “Wealth and success take many forms, Mr. Banks, but it is the heart that makes a man rich.”

Talia is a brave girl. I give her credit for finally making the first move and letting Antonio know how she feels about him. She went right up to him, laid a big smooch on him and put all her cards on the table. That took a lot of courage and I felt really sorry for her when she didn’t get the reaction she wanted. What made it even worse for her was when Antonio told her that he’s known for a while that she had feelings for him. And although I feel sorry for Talia, I think Antonio did the right thing in telling her that he wasn’t ready for a relationship with anyone at this point. It is awkward now because they have to work together and Talia feels humiliated, but Antonio was right in saying that he had to focus on getting over what happened to him with Jessica and that Jamie had to be a major concern. Jamie has been hurt a lot by losing Jessica and Bree as part of her family and I like the fact that Antonio is considering her before himself.
