Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL

REFLECTIONS BY JILL for November 6, 2006

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Well, this week gave us just one more great reason why TPTB should do anything in their power to keep Tuc Watkins on the show and that reason is none other than the comedy team of David and Viki. That’s right, they are just about the cutest and funniest pair I can remember on the show. In the midst of all that garbage that was going on at Asa’s house over whether or not Spencer is a Buchanan, David and Viki had me beaming with smiles and laughing out loud.

It was too funny at first when Viki tried to curtail David’s joking around. There was Asa, blustering about how he wouldn’t allow some stinkin’ snake to be his son and he couldn’t imagine a piece of manure like Spencer coming from his seed when David whispers to Viki, “unless his seed fell into a cow pie.” Viki was trying to control her amusement and be her best proper self when she looked at David and said, “David, wrong time, wrong place.” But I guess with her great sense of humor, Viki just couldn’t help herself a few minutes later when Asa was still yapping away and Spencer was obnoxiously taunting everyone in the room and David whispered to her, “I’ll bet you 2-1 that he’s a Buke” and Viki just gave him that amused look at said, “Make it 4-1 and you’re on!” The very best line was from David, when he looked at her in surprise and delight and said, “Why, Miss Viki!” David and Viki have a very cute and funny relationship. It’s not romantic (although if Tuc Watkins weren’t playing David, I always thought he could be a good replacement Ben), but it’s always fun to see how David really likes and respects Viki but he also loves to push the envelope with her because he knows she’s a cool lady that he can tease just a bit.

And of course it was David who convinced Spencer to release that choke hold he had on Viki and I loved the part where Viki thanked him and he said, “Well, I always did have a soft spot for you” and Viki replied, “and I for you.” These two are just too cute. What a refreshing pause in the middle of listening to Spencer and Asa ranting at each other.

And who believes that the DNA test is correct? Anyone who can bring to mind the names Bo, Nora, Sam, Lindsay and Matthew must certainly have their doubt, but I must admit that I felt a huge surge of joy watching Spencer’s face when he found out that he’s not the Buchanan his mama said he was. The guy just about lost his ever-lovin’ mind, didn’t he? Hey, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I’m certain that Asa has got plenty more information up his cowboy sleeve that he’s not divulging right now, and one of those things could be how he arranged to have those DNA results go his way, if he did in fact do that.

How stupid was it in the first place for Bo to even take Spencer out of jail to go to Asa’s for the DNA results? Spencer is the only prisoner in history who is going on trial for murder and gets to go on field trips. I did enjoy the conversation when Bo reminded Spencer that all of his schemes so far have failed because he’s still the commissioner; David and Paige have been exonerated in Thomas McBain’s death, Todd is still alive and well, etc., etc. It was nice to hear Spencer reminded of all that.

And I could have slapped Asa for being so nasty to David when he threw him out of the house. Poor David; he just can’t find a place for himself any more, can he?

I can’t wait for Todd to find out that Spencer tried to choke his beloved sister, Viki. I’d love to see Todd get his hands around Spencer’s neck for just a few seconds, or for at least as long as Spencer had Viki in that half-nelson.

OH, and BIG SURPRISE! The lawyer who Spencer used to get rid of Todd’s baby was killed in the tornado and the building with all his records was destroyed. I can’t wait for Rex to come up with the truth about that baby, but it’s going to be heartbreaking when Michael and Marcie have to deal with Todd wanting his son.

I’ll say it again. I am really going to be sorry to say good-bye to Heather Tom. Boy, that woman certainly knows how to rip my heart out when I watch her. You could feel Kelly’s pain when she was in such distress, trying to save her baby yet again. And having to deal with her whole family surrounding her couldn’t have been easy, but of course, they were all so worried about her. I was glad that Kevin told Spencer to take his offer and shove it when he made that ridiculous claim that he could save Kelly’s baby. God knows what the heck Spencer did to Kelly in the first place, or what he failed to do. And how touching was that scene where Kelly and Kevin were in the nursery with the baby failing and Kevin held him and spoke to him? Just watching the emotion on Kelly’s face made me sorry all over again that Heather won’t be around much longer. It’s too bad we’re not going to see Kelly and Kevin hand around Llanview to raise baby Zane. I’d like to see Kelly have a bit of happiness for once.

And then along came dear old Dorian with her opinion that Zane should not be a Buchanan. I died laughing when she said it wasn’t anything against the Buchanans, but a matter of feminism. Oh Dorian, as soon as I stop laughing I’m going to start laughing all over again. Sometimes I wonder why Viki bothers to remind her that it’s time to put aside the animosity once and for all. Viki should know that if Dorian put aside the animosity against the Buchanans, she wouldn’t have anything else to live for.
