Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL

I’d like to know why we have to bother with a wedding between Antonio and Jessica. Isn’t it more than obvious that even if they get through the “I dos” it won’t last? Jessica will not allow herself to believe that she is going through with this wedding with anything but a clear conscience about whom she wants to be with. We’re seeing the Jessica part of her personality now; the part that is sweet and does the right thing and doesn’t want to rock the boat. That is certainly no basis for a marriage, not when she’s having dreams about Nash (awake and asleep) and can’t even get him out of her mind. A perfect example was when she was talking to Nash about the wedding and said, “Find something else to do the day I marry Nash, I mean Antonio.” Could she ask for more of a reason to reconsider this wedding?

I was glad that Antonio thought about why he invited Nash to the wedding and was willing to admit that his reason was partly selfish. I guess we can’t blame Antonio for wanting to have Nash there to finally see that he and Jess are together and that there was no longer any hope for Nash and Tess. Antonio knows that Jess has feelings for Nash and I can’t blame him for being scared and unsure deep down inside about their relationship, but I think he has convinced himself that Jess is telling the truth, that the only reason she has feelings for Nash is because he is Bree’s father and she feels bad for him as well as guilty. Like Jessica, Antonio is fooling himself.

And it was very honest of Jessica to admit to Nash that she didn’t feel comfortable with him being at the wedding because deep down she has a fear that Tess will come out if he’s there and ruin everything. Something tells me that Nash is more than aware that something is happening between himself and Jessica. Every time he gives her one of those cute little smiles you can tell the feelings are there and if you ask me, the chemistry between Jessica and Nash is very potent.

And now Evangeline is taking over Spencer’s trial for Nora. I can’t say that I’m happy about this. I waited so long for Nora to come back and be the old Nora that so many of us loved, the smart, tough woman in the courtroom. I am so disappointed that TPTB are cheating us out of enjoying a veteran character that was born to take on someone like Spencer Truman. It’s funny that people complained about how much airtime Natalie and John were getting and now Evangeline is getting at least as much. I think Evangeline is involved in enough without TPTB pushing Nora aside for her to take on Spencer.

Hey, I was wondering. Do you think Spencer’s attorney was hatched from the same rotten egg as Spencer? Wow, what a pigheaded chauvinist he was to take on Evangeline and Nora the way he did. I hope those women mash him into the courtroom floor.

Spencer is dirtier than I could ever have imagined. I couldn’t believe he went so far as to damage McBain’s stitches in the recovery room so that the man would die and not be able to finger him for shooting him. This is an all-time low for Spencer. And did you see his jaw drop when he was laughing about Nora deciding not to be the head prosecutor on his case, and then found out that Evangeline would be doing the deed? That was great.

Okay, on to the Buchanans. I was thrilled to see Renee after such a long stretch without her. Honestly, as much as I love Renee, I have never been able to understand how she can still love Asa after all he’s done to her over the years and this latest development just adds fuel to the fire. I loved it when she screamed at Asa in anger and humiliation about Emma. Who could have imagined that Spencer’s mother worked for Renee when she ran her brothel? I really wanted to smack Asa when Renee was so upset and furious and said, “Emma was one of my best girls and you promised me that you’d never look at one of my girls.” The fact that Asa did just that while he was so deeply involved with Renee (that’s when they conceived Ben) was just one more nasty, egotistical thing that he has done. And of course while he’s sitting there swearing that he didn’t even know Emma, we vividly remember him telling David that his mother was one of the great loves of his life. I would love to see Renee just kick Asa’s butt to the curb and find a wonderful new man who will appreciate her. I don’t think Asa ever has. Asa, you’re still a dog!

We can’t let a week go by without acknowledging Dorian’s ridiculous behavior, can we? And the biggest question for me is how can Dorian sit at her kitchen table discussing Clint with David when David is sitting there naked from the waist up only inches away from her? Hmmm, she’s a strong woman. I had to laugh when she asked him why he doesn’t wear a robe and he said, “Robes are for girls.” I can’t think of one reason for David to put on a robe, can you?
