WELL, WELL, guess what the lead off for this weeks column is? Cant guess? HAH! Is there anything that happened last week that was more exciting that Spencers arrest? Of course not! To say I was thrilled would be a gross understatement. I dont think Ive enjoyed anything as much since Ben and Viki tied the knot. Actually, Im sure of it.
I think the biggest surprise for me was that Spencer really didnt have a clue that Blair was working against him. All those times he seemed suspicious of her, I guess he just couldnt get around that gigantic ego of his that kept telling him that she could never possibly want anything else but to be the object of his affection for the rest of her life (or the object of his obsession).
Lets just backtrack a little bit. I loved the scenes between Todd and Blair when they were at the penthouse and she revealed her whole plan to him and they made love. I dont think I can remember past scenes between Todd and Blair that were as good as these were. And Todd can scream it from the rooftops until the cows come home that he doesnt love Blair and doesnt want her anymore, but we got the proof loud and clear when she was leaving the penthouse and he made her promise never to let Spencer touch her again. It was too bad that she let Spencer coerce her into putting on that robe that she told Todd she was saving for him. Of course Todd was going to blow up at seeing that and on television no less. I have to say that I did love it when Spencer stormed into the penthouse looking for Blair and when she went upstairs Todd said to Spencer, Shes never going to marry you, dummy! So simply stated and so effective.
I enjoyed watching John blackmail that judge into giving him the warrant for Spencers arrest. I thought Asa had all the judged in Llanview in his pocket. I guess Spencer had at least one that he could call his own, too. I loved the way John looked the judge in the face and let him know that he was aware that the judge was Spencers golf and lunch buddy. At least the judge knew when to throw in the towel. The guys that are in Asas pocket arent so easy to work with and dont scare as easily.
I had to laugh when John walked in to arrest Spencer and I was certainly not surprised when that arrogant pig stood there and tried to belittle John. Spencer was so confident that the charges were trumped up and there was no evidence against him. And Blair just stood there saying nothing. It was priceless, as was that wink John gave her as he led Spencer out the door. And that was quite the well-deserved little welcoming party that was waiting for Spencer at the police station. I think the only people who missed Spencers entrance were the Buchanans who were busy with Jessicas therapy session. Bo was very cool when Todd showed up and told Bo that if he wanted him to leave hed have to throw him out bodily and Bo told him he was welcome to stay and he deserved to be there. Hey, its a Twilight Zone moment in Llanview when Bo and Todd are on the same side.
Just when I thought that the arrest was the best part of the week, I have to amend that. The very best part of the whole process was when Hugh handed John those papers in front of everyone and John proceeded to read off that very, very, long laundry list of charges against Spencer. I have to admit it. I rewound the tape and watched that part twice. It was a beautiful thing. And it got even better later on when John brought Dr. Snyder, that creepy pervert, down to Spencers cell and the truth was revealed about how Spencer got the doctor to lie about what happened in the operating room when Johns father died.
And it got better yet when Blair showed up and Spencer was totally glad to see her thinking she was his only ally. HAH! What a riot! We can say what we want about Blair and I have said plenty of negative things about her myself, but when she gets mad, watch out! I was cheering at the way she blasted him and burst his bubble. I was wondering how many times he was going to keep on insisting that everyone had manipulated her into going against him and that Todd was behind the manipulation.
I loved Blairs line when she glared at him and said, Todd didnt put you here Spencer, I did. Leave it to the master manipulator to play the innocent little boy and blame a whole town for slandering his good name. Didnt you just love it when Blair threw her engagement ring down and Spencer was down on the floor trying to grab it? For once, Spencer was where he belonged. But leave it to him to have the last word, even if it was to himself. Ever the arrogant sociopath, he just sat there on the floor and told himself that Blair would come crawling back to him. All I can say is that Blair better get herself a good bodyguard or leave the country if Spencer happens to get out of jail for any reason.
