Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Dear Judy: There is a very simple reason why Dorian did what she did to Adriana. No matter how much Dorian cries that her first priority in life is taking care of “her girls” she is full of it. That’s the excuse she uses for every ridiculous and nasty thing she does. Above all else, Dorian is a very selfish and insecure person and she never worries about the consequences of her actions. In her mind, the end always justifies the means and if she had succeeded in getting Adriana to dump Rex for good, she would have considered her plan a success no matter what. Sorry, can’t agree with you about Nash. I really like this guy and I think he and Jessica will be great together. I don’t know anything about us losing Hugh because we get to keep John McBain, so I can’t comment on that. And hey, are you the same person who stood up at the Fan Club Luncheon last week and said Starr should be sent off to boarding school? Thanks for the laugh.

Nellie writes: “I completely agree with you on how awful Dorian is; this latest stunt with Adriana is not only horrible it's just so unbelievable. I'm really missing her logic on this one. Still, I love Dorian. She's my favorite love to hate character and I'm wondering if you feel the same. I could strangle her but at least I enjoy watching her and waiting for Viki to get one up on her and waiting for the day they give Clint a brain and some family loyalty. I love Jerry as Clint and while NO ONE will ever be good enough for Viki after what she had with Ben (note to TPTB, PLEASE find a way to bring Ben back. I don't care if we find out he's been cloned or abducted by aliens and returned, Blondie needs her Bartender), I could have almost gotten behind a Clint and Vicki reunion with this Clint but it would be hard now to forgive him this silly dalliance with Dorian. So while Dorian is absolutely over the top in nastiness right now, aren't you glad she's in Llanview?”

Dear Nellie: Oh yes, I do love to hate Dorian. Honestly, most of the time I have no tolerance for her at all these days because she has gotten even dirtier in her schemes than ever. This time she is way over the top, but like you said, the best part about Dorian is watching her attempt one of her schemes and then watching it fall apart, which is invariably what happens. And for sure, no one will agree with you more that no one will every be good enough for Viki after she’s had Ben, and I for one would definitely believe it if they wanted me to believe he was “borrowed” by aliens. It’s my firm belief that Asa has hidden Ben away somewhere to protect him from the mob and has forgotten where he put him. Sounds good to me. I definitely think the show is leaning towards a Viki/Clint romance, but I can’t think of anything that would be more out of character for Viki, especially after Clint has been in Dorian’s bed. The “ick" factor in that is too much for me to digest and the new Clint continues to disappoint me because he’s more like the old Clint that I want him to be.

Nancy writes: “Can you please tell me how you get to go to the luncheon. I would really love it!”

Dear Nancy: Probably within the next couple of months the information will be out for next year’s Fan Club Luncheon. You can get the information on purchasing tickets on the One Life to Live Fan Club website at www.amcoltlfanclubs.com. The same person (Carol Dickson) runs the One Life to Live and All My Children luncheons.

Sue writes: “I just read your coverage of the Fan Lunch and it sounded like a lot of fun. I was wondering though… how far in advance do they shoot scenes before we see them on TV? I know people were asking questions about the future of many characters, but do they know what's going on in the next 2 weeks, 2 months or 6 months?”

Dear Sue: Usually, scenes are shot about 4 weeks in advance so when you meet the actors at a function like the Fan Club Luncheon, they usually know what’s coming up in the immediate future because they have already shot scenes that we won’t see for a month. However, whether or not they will give us a clue is the big question. They never come close to spilling all the beans, but sometimes we get little hints, like Renee Goldsberry telling us on Saturday that Evangeline and Cris would have some exciting scenes on Tuesday. No surprise there!
