REFLECTIONS BY JILL for July 28, 2008

From Jill Berry, for About.com

John and Blair

Copyright by ABC Daytime, 2008
Now we have Blair and John drinking on the roof and getting loosened up. Blair doesn’t know which end is up in her life and John is feeling lonely, too. He surprises Blair by saying that maybe he needs something more in his life than his job and that he has lost a lot of people he cares about and Blair starts to realize that instead of blaming Marty for Todd not being able to be “normal” she has to take responsibility for letting him ruin their family time and time again. John and Blair truly like each other, which doesn’t make it such a stretch for them to become intimate, especially when they’ve been drinking. So, they wind up in bed and Todd will find out. Wow, what a recipe for disaster. I remember that John and Evangeline wound up in bed together the first time after getting pretty drunk and they didn’t really have a romantic relationship up to that point either. Hmmm.

Brody continues to try to move closer to Gigi and Shane and even though Gigi has feelings for him and fond memories, he knows that she’s in love with Rex. I’m not feeling much warmth towards Brody, are you?

This brings me to Starr and Cole who are still at a stalemate. They both feel strongly about their feelings where the baby is concerned and I can’t imagine how this will be resolved, but I did read that Marcie and Michael will eventually get that baby, so if that is true, I think they’re all in for a bumpy ride. That video that Starr made for the baby was very touching.

I wonder what the next 40 years will bring for One Life to Live. Thanks again to the writers for a great celebration of the first 40! Stay tuned!

See ya next week.

FAN FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS

Dee writes: “I am the opposite of you; I love Todd, always have so it bugs me when you spend so much time downing him. I see a lot of chemistry between John and Blair and would like to see something come of that eventually. What do you think?”

Dear Carole: “I’m sorry you don’t like my comments about Todd. I can’t think of anything decent to say about him and with all the disgusting things he’s done, I have trouble figuring out how anyone can love this guy. Maybe if he didn’t dominate so much of the airtime, there wouldn’t be so many things he does that annoy me, but he’s making people miserable every minute he’s on the air so I have to blast him. You don’t have to agree and I’m fine with you saying so. I used to think Todd had some redeeming qualities, but I don’t see those any more. He used to have soft spots for Viki and Jessica, but lately he tells Viki to go to Hell when she disagrees with him and he laughed his head off enjoying “the show” when Jessica, in all her grief, blasted Natalie and Jared at Nash’s funeral. As far as John and Blair’s chemistry, I don’t like them much as a romantic couple. Blair uses too many dirty tricks for her to be in an honest and loyal relationship with John. I really do like Blair, but she can’t help but resort to her old scheming ways when she sees fit and that’s not good enough for John in my book. And honestly, I don’t think Blair will ever totally be over Todd and John doesn’t need that in his life. I think John and Blair have some physical chemistry, but I think John could have chemistry with a doorknob.

Deborah writes: “Sorry, I don’t mean to disparage an actress, but I don’t get the big deal everyone is making over Bree Williamson’s performance. I haven’t liked the character of Jessica since Erin Torpey left. Bree just seems over the top and still speaks with a Canadian accent! I am also sick of Tess now, enough is enough!”

Dear Deborah: I couldn’t disagree more about Bree Williamson. I think she has done a wonderful job in her roles as Jessica and Tess and although I loved Erin Torpey and think she was a wonderful Jessica, I think Bree did a very seamless job in taking over the role from the very well-loved young actress who created that role. No one could replace Erin, but Bree fit in perfectly, in my opinion and took Jessica to a more mature level. I will agree with you on one thing; I am sick of Tess, too.

Scott writes: “I love the Tina story and I am so happy to have her back. Sorry, you’re not a Tina fan but that's your loss. Money and wanting more is what Tina was all about so it's fitting that's what brought her back to town. I want to see her with the vets she worked with in the past and I can wait since I know that's coming soon enough and I am sure it will be worth the wait. So, don't bring us Tina fans down with your negative opinion.”

Dear Scott: I know there are lots of Tina fans out there and that’s fine with me. I just don’t happen to be one. I also enjoyed the show in the ‘80’s in spite of the fact that I never loved Tina. Hey, just my opinion. The fact that they brought her back and have her involved in a storyline with Carlo Hesser only makes it more annoying to me because honestly, I can’t understand the need to bring back these actors, especially at what I can only imagine was a ridiculous cost.
