Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for July 9, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

I think it’s nice to have the old Nora back. I loved the scenes where she was talking to Clint about Viki and David and then when Dorian came over to add to the conversation, Nora couldn’t stop laughing. Nora and I have that in common when it comes to Dorian and her supposed devotion to anything or anyone but herself. David was right on the money when he said, “Dorian’s buttons are easy to push and the Viki button is on speed dial.”

So, Antonio is home from the hospital and Talia is tending to his wounds. That’s not all she wants to tend to, is it? Obviously this friendship is going to head in a more romantic direction, but I did hear that Antonio and Cristian would both be in competition for Talia’s affections. That should be interesting for these brothers who have a shaky relationship at best right now. And by the way, I just have one comment for the writers and that would be that it was a gross error to have Talia tending to Antonio’s transplant wound without wearing gloves. I know this is a soap opera and it is Fantasyland, but that was just wrong and very, very stupid. She never forgets to put on gloves when she’s examining evidence in a police matter, but she didn’t even think she could kill Antonio with an infection by handling him without thoroughly cleaning her hands and putting on gloves.

That divorce hearing in court was pretty uncomfortable. I didn’t expect Jessica to come out and admit to the judge that she was the reason for the divorce and that Antonio was not at all to blame. And I knew that Jessica was going to become ill again, but I didn’t know she was going to collapse right there after the divorce hearing. Obviously, she is going to reject the liver transplant and will miraculously receive another one from none other than David Vickers, who unfortunately use this opportunity to tell Clint that he will go through with the transplant if Clint pays him $10 million. Supposedly David is going to regret doing this, but I’m not thrilled that he’s going to use the situation for his own gain at all. Jess will be going back into surgery and she and Nash will marry before she does. Gee, I hope somewhere down the line we get a nice wedding for this couple, otherwise I will feel very robbed.

The new actress who is playing Sarah is very good. I haven’t decided yet how much I like Sarah at this point, but this young woman seems like she can hold her own in a scene, especially with someone as powerful as Kassie DePaiva. It reminded me of when Natalie first came to Llanview and went up against Viki.

I thought it was too funny when Hunter showed up at La Boulaie and told Blair he would give her information about Todd’s whereabouts for money and all he wanted was $10,000. She tried to tell him that she didn’t have that kind of money hanging around but that boy is no fool. Blair gave in and handed over the $10,000 like she was paying the paperboy a few bucks for the weekly newspaper. Hey, don’t we all have that kind of money just lying around? It was probably in the cookie jar because surely nobody in that house bakes cookies, at least not cookies that anyone can consume and survive. Am I confused, or is this the first time we’ve ever heard of Marcie being unable to conceive a child? That was never mentioned as far as I can remember and now she is talking to Lindsay about it like it’s been a known fact all along. Maybe the new writers want to make it even worse for Marcie when she finds out that Tommy is Todd’s son, as if it won’t be bad enough when she finds out that fact and that Michael knew about it and kept it from her. Yes, she has obviously kept her infertility a secret from Michael, but somehow the two secrets don’t cancel each other out as far as I’m concerned.

Hmmm, Layla and Vincent are moving quickly back into the romantic mode, aren’t they? Can Vincent convince me that he’s a good guy? You see, this is how it happens. I get over-saturated with the hateful things that Miles and Tate do and then Vincent seems a whole lot less harmful. But my guard is still up. With all that Layla is going through with Evangeline, I’d hate to see her hurt any more than she’s already hurting.

See ya next week.
