Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for June 18, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

I wonder how long it’s going to be before we figure out what’s up with Todd. Now he’s with that new character, Hunter, and the young woman I believe is Sarah (Flash). Hopefully, she will have a more meaningful reason for being around this time because I wasn’t very impressed with the character the first time around.

Well, it looks like old Asa will be heading on to greener pastures. Some old faves will be back to send him off in August, including Kevin and Alex. Honestly, I don’t see any point in recasting the role of Asa Buchanan. Phil Carey has made that role his own and any time we did have a temporary replacement for him, it just didn’t pack the same punch. Carey’s Asa is an old coot that was loved by many and tolerated by even more and we won’t soon forget the character or his impact on some of Llanview’s most beloved citizens. And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mention that I hope before Asa meets his maker he tells someone where he has hidden Ben, because we all know that Ben is alive and Asa has hidden him somewhere to protect him from the mob. DON’T WE? You know me, just a simple girl with a dream.

See ya next week.

FAN FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS

Mary writes: “As one John and Natalie fan to another, what do you think are the chances of these two getting back together now that Higley isn't running the show?”

Dear Mary: I guess we have to wait and see what happens with the change in head writing, since most of the storylines are written way ahead and there are always situations where storylines are rewritten at the last minute. The recent direction for John and Natalie certainly has not been to bring them back together, but who knows? With John becoming more and more involved with the Marty and Miles fiasco and concentrating again on Spencer’s murder, I don’t know where Natalie will fit into his life these days. I’d be sorry to think that John and Natalie have had their last chance to work things out together, but right now it seems like they are headed in opposite directions. Supposedly Natalie will be doing some growing up of her own and will turn away from being the “bad girl.” She’s also going to meet someone. Somehow I always see Natalie and John being close. As for romance, it’s not in the cards right now. Maybe if Natalie gets herself into enough trouble somewhere, John will come to her rescue again, but honestly, I don’t want to see them together under those circumstances. A change in Natalie can only be a good thing.

Judy writes: “I still can't see how you can like Nash so much. He really is a pain. As far as I'm concerned what he is doing is nothing more than emotional rape. How did he get to watch a major operation like that? And where does he get off thinking he can see somebody two minutes after they have major surgery. When Jess recovers I hope she starts cheating on him. I know he thinks that Tess is going to come out and that's the only reason he is so in "love" with Jess.”

Dear Judy: Emotional rape? Hey, I know that some people have a real dislike for Nash, but this is a bit over the top as far as I’m concerned. I think it’s more than obvious that Nash’s interest in Jessica has nothing to do with him wanting Tess back. Nash fell in love with the person that Jessica has become, who of course has aspects of Tess’s personality, but after all they have been through, I can’t believe anyone would think that Nash is hanging around Jessica waiting for Tess to come back out. As far as Jessica cheating on Nash goes, that’s something else I think is ridiculous. Jessica loves him and has turned her life upside down to be with him and cheating has got to be the last thing on her mind. And if you’re going to say that she will always be a cheater because she cheated on Antonio, that’s just bull. You should listen to Antonio. Jess is not the woman he knew all those years and married.

Linda writes: “I wish Dorian would have been the donor for Jessie. Boy would the fur fly and make for some fun times. Sorry, I think John is cute with Marty. But who says the characters always have to marry. Close friends!! Like Natalie and Vincent. They could make friendships based on Yikes (Truth) of what’s going on in their lives. Lastly, I love John and Cole. I had such a wonderful time watching Michael and Marcie grill John on his (FEELINGS) about Marty; torturing him and getting a promise of a date out of him. I played those scenes over and over. Heartfelt relationship stuff. We need more.”

Dear Linda: I would have loved to see Dorian be the donor for Jessica. It would have opened up some hysterical situations where Viki and Dorian would have to put up with each other even though they can’t stand the sight of each other. And I hate to say it, but I don’t dislike Marty and John as much as I used to. As far as them being friends, I don’t see them stopping there if they are going to have a relationship. If they get closer, I’m betting on a romance. And yes, I thoroughly enjoyed Michael and Marcie razzing John about asking Marty out. I love the relationship between these two brothers and would love to see more. And I, too, never get enough of the heartfelt stuff.
