Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for May 21, 2007

From Jill Berry

REFLECTIONS BY JILL for May 21, 2007

It’s very painful to watch the whole drama play out with Jessica being so ill so suddenly. Just a second before Natalie asked the question, I asked the same one. How could Jessica be so healthy one minute and look like death warmed over the next? We didn’t even have any time to see her starting to feel ill or worn out. It didn’t make sense to me. This girl never even complained of a bellyache. I’m no doctor, but it just doesn’t seem realistic to me. And it is hard to watch Jessica’s whole family go through this now that it has been determined that she has end stage Hepatitis C and liver cancer.

I didn’t think it would be that easy, but TPTB have actually found an actor who plays the overbearing, fire-breathing Antonio as well as Kamar does. Just seeing him in action on the first day he was on the air temporarily playing Antonio, I didn’t have any problem seeing him in that role. Is that a bad thing?

I know how upset Antonio is over Jessica’s condition and he is also dealing with the fact that Nash is very much a part of Jessica’s life whether he wants to admit it or not. But I do think it was wrong for Antonio to refuse to let Nash into Jessica’s room when they got the results of the liver biopsy. And I felt bad for poor Michael when he had to deliver the bad news and Antonio got in his face with his temper blazing. I guess Michael is used to emotional reactions from families, but I’m just tired of seeing it in Antonio. I realize that Antonio was upset that Nash spent the night in Jessica’s room, but let’s face it, he could have been there himself and he wasn’t. Whether he likes it or not, Nash is a part of Jessica’s life if for no other reason that she is Bree’s mother and we all know it’s about more than that. Antonio knows it, too. And I was glad to see the honestly in Antonio when he spoke to Clint and told him that it’s hard for him to see Jess now without seeing Tess and feeling resentment. I don’t find that hard to understand and I think it’s a good thing that Antonio realizes that he has been fooling himself since Jessica’s integration about things being okay, just like Jess was fooling herself when she married him.

To top it all off, Antonio had to get hit square between the eyes when Jessica finally decided it was time to tell him the truth and started out with “I’m in love with Nash.” I know that she feels she has to set things straight because she knows her time could be limited and she doesn’t think it’s fair to ask Antonio to go through this with her when she wants to be with Nash, but I guess there could be no right time to say something like that.

Talia continues to annoy me. She has put herself in the middle of Antonio’s problems and she has no right to be there. She tried to stop him from making a scene at the hospital with Nash and that may have been a good thing, but when Antonio told her to butt out, she made that stupid comment about her badge putting her in the middle of the situation. What was that all about? She obviously has a thing for Antonio, but she does need to butt out. She doesn’t have a right to say a word about what’s going on in his family. When he becomes emotionally available, then she has a right to be involved.

I was glad that Nash had Paige with him to explain things. Paige has a very nice way with people. I’d like to see her stick around and be Chief of Staff again. Of course, I’d like nothing better than to see Larry Wolek back as Chief of Staff, but unfortunately, that’s not happening.

I know I never have anything good to say about Clint except that he’s been very fair to Nash and this week is no different. What the heck was that dinner all about with Viki? I think Clint is off his rocker. And I don’t want anyone telling me that he was so upset over Jessica that he acted like a jerk. Most of the time he just IS a jerk. I couldn’t believe that he made those comments to Viki and implied that she couldn’t be that upset about Jessica’s condition if she was able to eat her dinner. Honestly, I don’t think Viki should have eaten her dinner either. I think she should have thrown it in Clint’s face. I don’t care how distraught Clint was. He had to know that the stupid comments he made about her actually eating her dinner were ridiculous and very insulting. But I never worry about Viki getting her licks in. I died laughing when she walked away from the table and said, “Thanks for dinner Clint. Sorry I ate it!” Viki is just priceless.
