Adriana and Rex

Copyright by ABC Daytime, 2008
What can we say about the wedding of Adriana and Rex? I can think of one thing and that is WHAT A MESS! I can’t think of much else that could go on that would doom this wedding. You had to figure that the wedding would be doomed when the bride and groom both have so much on their minds other than their love and devotion to each other that neither one of them is walking into this wedding with total sincerity. Thinking back to other soap weddings, I’d say this one is right up there with “Doomed Fiasco” as its theme.

There are so many things going on that are related to this wedding couple that it’s hard to keep track of them. First we have Adriana, who has been so insecure from the beginning that she pushed for an immediate wedding way before Rex had a chance to get used to the idea of even getting married. It was bad enough when all Adriana had to battle was her mother doing everything she could to prevent this wedding from taking place. Once Gigi entered the picture, Adriana totally lost her mind. Then we have Rex who was in no way really ready to commit to marriage before he ran into Gigi in Texas and now he certainly isn’t ready. Rex was uncomfortable with the thought of marriage when Adriana came back for that short visit from Paris and came up with the idea to get married right away. She would have done it that day if she could have because she was already worried about Gigi’s influence on Rex.

Then we have Dorian, who was so terrified of losing Adriana for good, that she agreed to do Adriana’s bidding and helped carry out the scheme to get Brody to reunite with Gigi. Dorian seemed all along like she was going along with things no matter what Adriana asked so that her daughter could have the wedding she dreamed of. How lucky was it for Dorian that while she was doing everything she could to get Adriana married to Rex, the opportunity fell into her lap so that she could ruin Adriana’s dream of marrying Rex and it wouldn’t even appear to be her fault. She sure seized the opportunity to take control of things when Adriana sent her to find Brody and make sure he showed up at the wedding to surprise Gigi. It’s too bad for Adriana that although she has become a mini Dorian, she still can’t compete with the master. All it took was a bigger check than Adriana gave Brody and Dorian thought he was putty in her scheming little hands. Of course, as usual, Dorian probably believes that no one will ever find out what she did, but Gigi is going to find out and blow her out of the water. This time Dorian must feel totally justified in interfering because she, like everyone else, can see that this wedding is doomed because Adriana has lost trust in her ability to hold onto her man and Rex has actually given her good reason to do just that. Dorian was counting on Rex not showing up at the church and was so anxious for Bo to tell everyone the wedding was postponed. But Rex did show up, even if he did look like a dead man walking. I have to say that just when I think Dorian is about as nasty as she can get, she goes a bit further. Nothing gets in the way of her doing what she thinks is right and if it breaks her daughter’s heart along the way, so be it.

At this point, Rex has unintentionally given Adriana plenty of reasons to have doubts. It surely didn’t help matters when Rex came home drunk the night before the wedding and couldn’t “perform.” We all know that with all that Rex had imbibed, it would have taken a miracle for him to be able to make love, but in Adriana’s state of mind, it just added to her insecurities. And actually, even if the drinking didn’t hamper Rex’s “abilities”, I wouldn’t be surprised if thinking about Gigi was what “deflated” him when he tried to make love with Adriana. LOL!

And then we have Adriana at the church and like everyone else she is wondering what the heck happened to the groom. She was so obsessed with Brody coming to shock Gigi that she couldn’t put down her phone long enough to get ready on time, but of course that wasn’t an issue because Rex was very late anyway. The wedding is the last thing on Rex’s mind when he goes to pick up Charlie at Viki’s house and finds Gigi there with Shane in the middle of having an asthma attack. Thank goodness Shane was okay once they got him to the hospital, but there will be nothing Rex can say that will appease Adriana. It was no secret to Michael how Rex and Gigi felt about each other when he almost caught them kissing in the hallway. At this point Rex knows he shouldn’t marry Adriana and doesn’t know which way to turn.

Gigi finally realizes that she can’t keep the truth a secret any more after admitting to Marcie that Rex is Shane’s father. Marcie convinces her that Shane deserves to know and have a relationship with his real father and Gigi is going to confess her feelings at the wedding (timing?) and will be met with a punch in the face from Adriana. I wonder how Dorian is going to contain her glee. After all, her little confrontation with Gigi before the ceremony, where she told Gigi she knew the truth about Shane probably pushed Gigi over the edge in making her decision to come forward.

I think the bright spot in this whole wedding fiasco was Roxy. It was very sweet when Roxy went to see Rex before the wedding and got all teary when she told him how proud she was of him and that if he turned out so well then it means she isn’t such a loser. Poor Roxy, she has feelings, too. It was good to see her as her usual hysterical self when she said she intended to do Adriana’s hair and said that she wanted to do it like “Amy Wino-house’s hair.” OMG, I would have paid money to see that. Even funnier was Roxy showing up at the church with rice to throw at the happy couple. You have to love Viki for being such a diplomat and politely letting Roxy know that the rice you throw at a wedding should not be cooked. Hey, come on, Viki, it was left over from the egg foo young!
