REFLECTIONS BY JILL for May 14, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Whoa, it looks like Rex is in some big trouble, doesn’t it. Last week he behaved like the old Rex when he pulled that stunt and outed Tate without thinking about the consequences. It was just plain stupid. What made him jump to the conclusion that Tate is gay just because Tate’s ex-wife said that they divorced because of fraud? As much as I despise Tate and wish he’d fall off of Llantano Mountain, that wasn’t the way to deal with the guy. Obviously, Rex did everything for revenge because Tate has refused to stop pursuing Adriana and for that stupid stunt on The View. I think a lot of the problem with Tate is Adriana’s fault. No matter what she says, Rex is right about one thing; she doesn’t hate Tate’s attention nearly as much as she says she does and she could have put Tate in his place and nipped his obnoxious behavior in the bud. She should realize that she has done as much or more for Tate’s career as he’s done for hers so she shouldn’t be worried that if she upsets his applecart it will hurt her business. He only got that offer from the television station after he became a hit as Adriana’s underwear model.

So Rex succeeded in hurting Tate, but he has done real damage to his relationship with Adriana. And I don’t remember Tate ever giving Adriana back her phone, so if he still has it and has listened to the messages Rex left for Adriana about Todd’s baby, Rex might as well book a flight to Timbuktu now. Sadly for Rex, he’s not ready to believe that Tate isn’t gay, even though his ex-wife showed up to deny it. And Tate was a cheating husband? Imagine that!

Rex should have realized how bad his actions were when Roxy, of all people, was the one who made sense by letting him have it for what he did to Tate. He should remember her words when she said, “People who are bitten bite back.” And Roxy never believed Tate was gay anyway, when she told Rex, “Unless he has a wife named Rick or Dick, you don’t know what gay is.”

It’s too bad Henry had to be sacrificed in that car accident. I was just glad that the other kids didn’t get hurt, although it was very surprising that they didn’t, even though they were wearing seatbelts. I can’t even begin to say how disgusting I think Brittany is. She is so self-centered that she can’t even admit her part in Henry’s demise. But what they say is true. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I remember her parents being obnoxious the last time we saw them. This time they were past disgusting. Obviously, their precious little princess couldn’t have done anything that caused this horrible chain of events and I just sat shaking my head in disbelief when they told Dorian that they were going to sue the school for everything they could and that Dorian’s name on the lawsuit would be a plus. Shocking as it may be, I love the moments, rare as they may be, when Dorian does something decent and I cheered her on when she looked at Brittany’s parents and said, “I think the school’s money would be much better spent doing something for the students.”

And Blair was certainly in rare form, wasn’t she. I can’t blame her for being upset. After all, she had to hear Starr on the phone during the accident and didn’t know if her daughter was dead or alive. But she was her usual over the top self when she finally arrived at the school, found Starr to be physically fine, and laced into Marty with her claws outstretched. Marty ought to offer Blair some tranquilizers. She was like a raving lunatic, especially when she threatened to kill Marty and Cole if anything happened to Starr. Of course Blair would never believe that Cole did something good that probably saved Starr’s life by getting Henry to turn the car around and head back to the school.

It was good that Blair finally went home with Starr because she needed to chill out. And I still maintain that Starr is the adult in her family and it’s a good thing she is as mature as she is with the parents she’s got. I know it was hard for Blair to tell Starr that Todd was missing, but really, that wasn’t anything that Starr hasn’t had to hear a million times in her life. Her parents are always running off and getting into trouble. So what else is new? I did love the scene where Blair and Starr were at home and Starr came to Blair’s bedroom to talk. You could tell she was just a kid who needed her mom when she said to Blair, “It’s okay to say you’re scared. If you say you’re scared, then I can say I’m scared, too.” Blair really loves her kids to death, but she gets so caught up in lashing out at everyone who she thinks is responsible for her troubles that she often forgets what is important, like just holding and comforting Starr after she had been through a horrible ordeal.

And Miles is certainly getting creepy, isn’t he? He sure isn’t happy about seeing John around Marty every time he turns around. And obviously, he has a new disdain for Todd ever since he found out that he raped Marty. It’s hard for Miles to understand Marty when he asks her why she cares what happens to Todd. Even when Marty explained about Todd having changed and really loving his kids, Miles doesn’t really get it. Well, let’s face it. The only interpersonal relationships Miles has had in his life were with Spencer and a hooker. His frame of reference leaves a lot to be desired. And now he’s lying about having a date? Does he think Marty will be jealous?
