Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for April 2, 2007From Jill Berry REFLECTIONS BY JILL for April 2, 2007Oh, Natalie and John. What can I say? The word is that this relationship is over but John and Natalie will have sex one more time before they say good-bye. Yeah, thats going to thrill me. NOT! This is one storyline that is quickly heading for the nearest landfill and personally, I am disgusted at the way this couple was handled. This could have been a great story about two people who butt heads at every turn and still learn to have a great life together with a lot of interesting ups and down. Instead, we have had to sit and watch them take one step forward and five steps back every day. The writing for this couple has been terrible and so many fans are disappointed, myself included.
It was hard to watch those scenes between Natalie and John last week as he so heartlessly let her think he was going to propose to her and she, in her excitement, just ran with it believing that she would finally get to be happy. Although some people might not like me calling John heartless, I dont know what else to call him. I am past the point where really liking this character is enough. He is an emotional cripple and he has done nothing to change that fact. He knows Natalie better than anyone and he had to know what it would do to her to string her along, especially once that engagement ring came into play after his accident. I mean, come one. Was his tongue crazy-glued inside his mouth? The minute she said she was going to tell her family about their impending engagement, he should have dropped everything and gone after her. Sure, she got a little crazy when she thought he was going to propose, but I dont blame her nearly as much as I blame John. When she was so excited that she wouldnt let him speak, he should have done anything in his power to shut her up and make her listen. Telling her he loves her but he doesnt see marriage for them was ridiculous and it was more than unkind of him to string her along. I was only sorry that Natalie was so desperate to hang on to him that she said it was okay if he didnt want marriage and she could live without the piece of paper. I hate that shed compromise herself for someone that probably isnt worth it any more. I have always loved John, but I cant abide by what hes doing now. John spent all that time in the hospital rehashing his life and realizing he didnt want to waste any more of it. He made up his mind that he wanted to be with Natalie and made her believe it. Now all of a sudden he tells her that he thought he could change but now he realizes he cant. And now all of a sudden he wants to spend time talking about why he cant make the commitment. I applauded Natalie for not wanting to hear his stupid explanations and just wanting a yes or now answer from him. When Marty busted into his office and interrupted them and John decided to help Marty, Natalie should have told him where to go right then and there and been done with him. He could have sent any cop to find Cole and Starr, but once again, he chose to avoid dealing with his life. Natalie should have known better than to run off half cocked without a ring on her finger, but I dont really blame her at all for this mess. I blame her for running to Vincent, but thats another can of worms that Im sick of talking about. I was disappointed in Natalie when she ran and told Todd about Starr and Cole running away just to get back at Marty. That was vindictive and Natalie should be above things like that by now. I hope she takes some time to get herself straightened out and I hope the same for John. Poor Miles. He certainly has a lot to learn about women. Somehow I dont think Marty is the person to teach him, even though he thinks she is. He surely didnt realize that it was the wrong move when Marty insisted they just be friends and he grabbed her and kissed her. Now that Jessica has explained a bit about Marty to him he can understand, but what will he do to Todd now that he knows Todd was one of the rapists? And speaking of Jessica, we now have a big part of the mess that is her life rearing its head and that is little Jamie. This is just one more reason that Jessica should never have gone through with that wedding to Antonio. Jamie is just a little girl who lost her mother, her father and grandfather have always fought over her and now that she finally has a home with someone she can call mommy it is about to be ripped away from her. Its not fair to do that to a child who has been through so much already. If he wasnt suspicious before, Antonio has to be suspicious now because it was totally out of character for Jessica to hesitate when Jamie said she wanted to call her mommy. Anyone who knows Jessica (except Nash) would assume that Jamies request would make her completely honored and happy. Im sure in her situation she felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. In her heart she cant say shell be with Antonio forever, so letting Jamie get used to her as her mother is a cruel thing to do. Then, on the other hand, Jessica desperately wants to be able to love Antonio and Jamie the way she feels she should, but Nash is taking up too much of her heart for her to think about forever with Antonio. And shame on Jessica for telling Antonio that she was hesitant to let Jamie call her mommy because she didnt want her confused about who her real mother was. Nothing was on her mind except her turmoil over Nash and she didnt want to hurt Jamie by getting too close if she wasnt going to be around forever. I dont think it had anything to do with Kerri. Jess temporarily dodged a bullet when Antonio brought up the subject of her adopting Jamie but she is going to agree to it and sign the papers. Bad idea! |
