REFLECTIONS BY JILL for February 18, 2008

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Gigi told Rex that Shane is not his son. Anyone who believes that is off the wall and Rex surely isn’t stupid. Things are getting way too confusing in the “who’s your daddy” department on this show. Jared finds out that Charlie is claiming to be Rex’s father. He doesn’t even know the reason for that revelation, but he has the audacity to say that Charlie is pulling a scam to get something out of it. Oh my God Jared; talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Deep down, Jared is still that little boy who craved his father’s attention and needed his father to save him and couldn’t get what he wanted and needed. We now know that it was Pamela’s brother who married Jared’s mother after Charlie left and that he beat Jared and his mother badly, a fact that Charlie never knew. Jared developed his obsession with Asa when Pamela would come by and comfort him as a boy, telling him about Asa and what a great, important man he was, making Jared want Asa to be the father he never had. Jared’s problem today is that he can’t bring himself to make wanting Natalie more important than wanting to be a Buchanan. Will he succeed in letting her know his true feelings?

It’s nice to see Viki enjoying having some of her crew from Paris, Texas back home in Llanview. It’s nice that she can do something for Gigi like taking her to the ball, which is something Gigi would never have gotten to do. I also think it’s cute that Shane is getting introduced to all these people that live in mansions and he’s being treated like a little prince. Hey, this kid hasn’t had an easy life but he’s had a lot of love. Maybe he can teach Jared a thing or two.

I also think it’s fun that Viki is taking Charlie to the ball. Of course he doesn’t really think he belongs there because he doesn’t want to do anything that would make Viki uncomfortable, but honestly, I think the fun part for Viki is walking in and setting the tongues wagging. And how cute was Charlie giving Viki that statue of the Eiffel Tower with the cowboy hat on it for Valentine’s Day? Now there’s a gift even Dorian wouldn’t be jealous of, but it sure meant a lot to Viki. Can you just see Dorian stopping by Llanfair and admiring Viki’s newest knick-knack?

Charlie sure shot straight with Jared when he warned him not to hurt Natalie or he’d expose his secret. Jared never thought Charlie would jeopardize his relationship with Viki, but he shouldn’t be too sure about that.

Ugh, it wasn’t bad enough that the horrible Mayor Lowell had to show up as Dorian’s date, but he had to be a true sadist and make that awful announcement about Bo no longer being Commission and Ramsey taking his place. What kind of under the table deal got Ramsey that job? Is the mayor crooked and Ramsey is his pawn? The mayor sure enjoyed reminding Bo that his father was dead and the Buchanan influence in Llanview is waning. Maybe Asa’s bullying angered the mayor one too many times and this is his payback. And there’s Bo, ever the loyal friend and altruistic man refusing to resign from his job when the mayor gave him the choice of giving Lindsay the boot or being fired. I hope Lindsay can be happy now that she is the reason Bo lost a job he loves. I don’t think she’ll lose any sleep because Bo foolishly will convince her that he did the right thing not caving in to the mayor’s wishes. The mayor was also pretty disgusting to Nora, but like she pointed out, he can’t fire her because she’s an elected official. Bo wasn’t so lucky.

So, Talia and Antonio are already fraternizing at the police station. Does it matter that they are off duty? I don’t think so. Now it’s Ramsey’s problem. Oh, Lordy help us all.

I liked the fact that Cristian and Sara went out and he took her to a museum. It’s nice that they can understand each other’s passions; his for art and hers for music.

Starr certainly was at the end of her rope with Langston and Cole. She had no idea they were planning a party for her and she had to apologize big time to them for accusing them of “hooking up” behind her back. The thing is that Langston will really be fighting her feelings for Cole and maybe Cole will have the same feelings. This is going to be hard for these young people to work out, especially since Dorian is about to permanently adopt Langston. And how funny is it that Rex has been saying that Ultra Violet has been doing poorly for a while now and all of a sudden he’s able to get Mary J. Blige to perform at Starr’s party? It would have been more believable if Viki and Dorian got her to sing at the ball.

And I hate to say that the dumbest line of the week came from Viki, but I died laughing when she wondered how the heck Alison got out of St. Ann’s with all their security? Viki, please! What security? There is no security in Llanview. Asa’s mansion has none; Dorian’s mansion has none; and people walk in and out of your own mansion whenever they feel like it and just say, “Lois let me in.” I’m surprised that the locks on the cells in the jail keep the prisoners in.

In closing, I must say that I love the comedy team of Roxy and Alison. I died laughing when they were discussing their current situation and although Alison was having fun, Roxy said, “Yeah, this is fun, just like getting electrolysis.” And when they were talking about Jessica and Roxy implied that Alison was crazy, I loved Alison’s reply when she said, “Well, at least I only have one personality” to which Roxy replied, “Yeah, like that’s something to brag about.” Now these two are on a date for the ball and Alison has her red dress and her gun; a recipe for disaster! She’s holding a big secret over Roxy’s head, a big enough secret for Roxy to beg her for mercy. This can’t be good.

See ya next week.
