REFLECTIONS BY JILL for January 21, 2008

Finally, finally, finally, Marcie’s descent into insanity has ended. I can’t say that I’m sorry it’s over. It was getting very tedious having to watch her week after week as she deluded herself into thinking she could have a life on the run. It was pretty heartbreaking when she had to turn the baby over to Todd, but there was no pleasant way this was going to end and now maybe she can salvage something out of her life. I feel really sorry for Michael. Sure, he should never have lied to Marcie in the first place and kept the secret about Tommy, but he did that out of pure love for his wife and his son and it was no excuse for Marcie to go as far as she did.

I felt really bad for John, too, especially when Marcie asked him to get Tommy’s favorite blanket and give it to Todd. In all the hysteria, we lost sight of the fact that John loves that little boy, too and that it was hard for him to see Tommy turned over to Todd. I was not a fan of John and Marty, but John has now lost more than one person from his life in a very short time.

I also think it’s pretty ridiculous to change that little boy’s name to Sam at this point. It’s not like he doesn’t know his name is Tommy. And hasn’t he got enough to deal with being thrown into a new family and not even being called by the name he knows is his? I feel sorriest for this little boy because Todd doesn’t even seem to be worried that he keeps crying for his mommy. Blair mentioned it twice and Todd just says he’ll be okay. Yep, there’s a concerned dad for you. Blair was right on the money when she told Addie that the baby’s adjustment won’t be easy and that Todd only sees the biological facts.

And can we talk for a minute about the little boy who plays Tommy? Do you ever wonder what kind of affect being in those scenes with Kathy Brier does to a young child like that? This child has been subjected to being in scenes with people crying and screaming at each other, being passed around left and right, being called Tommy and Sam. I cringed every time Marcie or Michael was holding him and they were screaming at each other inches from the kid’s ears, not to mention those family hugs where he got squished between them. All I can say is that kid has the most docile personality I’ve ever seen and I just wonder why he didn’t get hysterical crying in those heated screaming and crying scenes.

Of course, creative geography being what it is on soaps, it was no surprise that Blair could fly from Pennsylvania to Texas in five minutes to be with Todd. I know she thought that Todd needed her, but once again she flew out of the house without a thought, leaving Dorian to report her departure to her kids. I know that getting Tommy back was the only thing Todd could think about for a long time, but I think it was terrible that in all the mess that was going on, they forgot Starr’s birthday and it was her 16th birthday which his so important to a young woman. Sure, she said it didn’t matter to her, but hey, she’s used to this stuff from her parents. I just don’t think it was right.

Now Marcie is in jail and she’s feeling remorse for what she did to Viki and to Gigi. I think it’s a case of too little, too late. She’s just lucky that Viki and Gigi are the kindest people she could have run into because obviously, the Texas authorities want to throw the book at her before she even gets to face charges in Llanview and they won’t get any help from the people whose lives she disrupted.

It was no surprise that Gigi would not be mad at Marcie for getting her involved in a mess that landed her in jail. It was no surprise that Viki would bail Gigi out of jail and of course, true to form, Viki told the District Attorney that she would not press charges against Marcie for holding her hostage, not would she ever testify against her. I found the scene really emotional when Viki tried to relieve Marcie of her guilt by trying to convince her that she didn’t hurt her and Marcie refused to accept Viki’s kindness saying that she would never forgive herself. Marcie has to feel the guilt right now for what she did and even though Viki was very kind to try to ease her pain, Marcie is just despondent right now after losing Tommy and feels her life is worth nothing. Hopefully, John will get Gigi to admit that Ramsey threatened her to keep quiet about holding her son hostage and we can finally leave the bad memories of Paris, Texas behind.

What I hope we don’t leave behind is Moe and Noelle. I know that somehow Gigi is going to wind up having a life back in Llanview, but I really do hope that Viki’s goodbye to Moe and Noelle wasn’t a final one. They are the most adorable bunch of characters I’ve seen in a long time and it was sad to see Viki have to leave them behind. It felt like I was watching The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy has to say goodbye to the Tin Man, The Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow.

I liked the scenes where Natalie and Jessica kept trying to get information about Viki’s new boyfriend out of Moe and Noelle. Noelle almost gave away all of Viki’s secrets, but I was glad Moe didn’t give her a chance to do it. Once Viki runs into Charlie in Llanview, there will be plenty of time for explanations all around. Besides, Natalie and Jessica didn’t suffer too much since they reaped the benefits of Moe’s delicious cooking while they waited for Viki.

Wow, now Pamela Stuart is back. I’m glad Bo said she was Asa’s second wife. Who could remember the number when there were at least eleven or twelve? I’m interested to see what happens between her and Jared.
