Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL

REFLECTIONS BY JILL for January 15, 2007

From

Isn’t it about time that Jessica took a good, long look in the mirror and gave herself a dose of honesty? Pretty soon little Bree is going to jump up and say, “Mommy, take off the blinders! You’re in love with my real daddy and you’re not fooling anyone but yourself!”

In all honestly, I very often wish these days that Jessica had just a little less of Tess in her and a little more of the old Jess. Many times these days I find that she’s too harsh in some ways and it would be nice if the Jessica part of her would smooth out those rough edges that sometimes make her seem just a bit too cold for my liking. I like the interest that Tess brings to Jessica’s personality, but I find that now in many of her relationships, Jessica lacks sensitivity and I miss that. For instance, although it eventually worked, I didn’t feel comfortable with the way she walked into Cristian’s place and started smashing all his paintings to prove her point. I didn’t like the way she just blew off Antonio’s feelings when he said he didn’t care for her being in a magazine in her underwear when all the other women had their clothes on. Her comment that, “you didn’t seem to mind my attitude on our honeymoon” was not very nice in my book and had nothing to do with what they were talking about. And she lets out the nastiness more than ever to Nash. Obviously, he affects her the most and since she can’t handle her feelings for him she lashes out at him.

I never thought I’d say this, but she doesn’t show much compassion for Antonio’s feelings. She has changed so much and he has given her a ton of leeway and never asks for her to apologize for who she is now, but she doesn’t temper her behavior at all, like when she found out that Antonio had offered Nash the job running the nightclub and got all bent out of shape, making up all kinds of silly excuses for why it wasn’t a good idea.

I was cheering when Nash accepted the job. Oh sure, the sensible thing for Antonio to do would be to offer the job to Cristian, the brother he loves who doesn’t eve have a job, but hey, that wouldn’t cause enough conflict in Antonio’s life. At least Marty was honest with Jessica when she told her that she should think about the possibility that she might be in love with two men. Well, there’s one diagnosis that Marty got right. Let’s add Starr to the list of people who shouldn’t have bothered visiting Spencer. Well, I don’t blame the kid. She was so excited about the prospect of her parents actually getting married that she couldn’t help but go gloating to the one person she figured it would hurt the most. It’s too bad that Spencer is such a creep that he can’t even have compassion for a young girl whose life has been turned inside out and ripped apart. And someone should tell Bo what a waste it is to have that cop outside Spencer’s door. He let Starr into Spencer’s room carrying a purse big enough to hid ten guns and a machete. What is happening to the Llanview PD?

The one thing I love is that Spencer is truly afraid of going to Wingdale. He knows they’re going to pump him with drugs to dope him up and he’ll never be in control of everyone’s lives and he can’t have that. And let me just say GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK!!! Do the brilliant writers of this show expect us to believe that it would take only that one cop whose been standing outside Spencer’s door (when he’s not goofing off or letting everyone in to chat) to get Spencer out of bed, handcuffed and off to Wingdale? That was the most ridiculous scene I’ve ever witnessed with that one cop getting big, strong Spencer out of the handcuffs, out of bed and trying to get the handcuffs on him standing up. I was surprised that Spencer didn’t choke the guy to death when he leaned over the bed to open the handcuffs in the first place. Spencer took that guy down as if he was a little marshmallow and then Marty didn’t stand a chance. They should have had two more cops in that room holding guns to Spencer’s head and “any other valuable body parts” to keep him in line and everyone safe from him.

And I was wondering how Spencer was going to get Todd to agree to stay away from Blair after he saved her life. Oh yeah, that’s right, stay away from Blair for four or five years and maybe then I’ll tell you where your son is. It’s such a riot how Spencer is the only doctor that can cure everything. I guess he has a Dr. Frankenstein lab somewhere where he invents all these experimental procedures that no one else on the earth can come up with. I sure do wish Todd would have ended it for all of us when he had the chance with that scalpel at Spencer’s throat. But hasn’t he learned that Spencer can’t be threatened? He has too much information to be better off dead to Todd. And I have to admit that I died laughing when Dorian walked in on Todd with the scalpel at Spencer’s throat and said, “Todd, do it. End that miserable bastard’s life.” I think Dorian made one major mistake there. Her mistake was telling Todd that if Blair died and he went to prison for killing Spencer, she’d raise his kids and make sure they had a good life. Hmmm, does Dorian think that the prospect of Starr and Jack being in her clutches for the rest or their lives was incentive for Todd to off Spencer? That statement from Dorian probably sealed Todd’s decision not to kill Spencer. I did have a good laugh in an otherwise serious scene; I couldn’t help it.

And all in all it was a pretty good hostage situation with Spencer holding Marty while half of Llanview looked on. I hear that Spencer actually shot himself to avoid going to Wingdale. He knows if he goes there he doesn’t have a chance.
