REFLECTIONS BY JILL for January 9, 2007

From Jill Berry, for About.com

Hey, what would Llanview be without the annual snowstorm where two people get thrown together and stranded? Of course, Nash had to pick that day to take Jessica to see his new vineyard and he needed to go there anyway to get a case of wine for Antonio to thank him for having the construction move along so quickly. Oh, and I almost forgot. He just happened to run out of gas. What else could go wrong? Oops, oh yeah, finding an old, broken down mine that collapses from an avalanche and the need to strip off their clothes so they can stay alive by combining their body heat. And where did that big old tarp miraculously come from? I guess the mine fairy figured they needed something to cover up with. If you haven’t seen this 50 times before, then you aren’t a very avid soap fan. I wonder if enough Jess/Nash feelings will come out of this fiasco to make them both stand back and wonder why they’re not together. And of course, Antonio says he trusts Nash and isn’t worried that he and Jess are stranded somewhere alone. Then he finds them and they are furious with each other because Jess tried to give Nash mouth to mouth and he kissed her instead. Jess and Nash are a perfect example of that old adage, “There’s a thin line between love and hate.”

Gosh, I wish I were one of those people who found it easy to fast forward because I sure would do it whenever Vincent appeared on my screen. I don’t think he torched his own building, but the thing is, I don’t really care who did. Sure, he’s a suspect just like RJ was always a suspect when something went wrong. It’s an old and tired storyline.

It was great to see Phil Carey back on his feet. Since his return a few months ago, we have only seen Asa sitting down and it was great to see him on his feet again in his scene with Clint at Serenity Springs, even if it did take looking at girls in exercise clothing to perk up old Asa’s mood. One of my favorite scenes from last week was watching Matthew beat old Asa at poker. It’s really neat to watch Matthew growing up and becoming the best of both worlds, being a Buchanan and being a Hanen.

Speaking of Hanens, do you think it’s realistic for Evangeline to take the job Nora offered her as Assistant District Attorney? Actually, she didn’t really accept it as much as it was shoved down her throat. She made some good points about loving her private practice and all the nice things that the money allows her to have. I like Nora, but that was way too pushy and Evangeline should have insisted that she needed more time to think about it. And what was Vincent doing sticking his nose into the whole thing? Why is he here?

And now Cristian is having trouble paying his bill and even his rent. Is trouble going to be brewing for the ever independent and mach Cris and his very well off girlfriend, Evangeline, who will only want to help him? Definitely. Cris will have more to worry about now that the police have found out that the accelerant that started the fire at Vincent’s building was turpentine. Gee, what a coincidence.

I continue to cringe at having to see Viki and Dorian battle over Clint. Ewww, sorry, but I just can’t warm up to this storyline. Clint is an okay guy, but actually he’s too good for Dorian and not good enough for Viki (if you ask me, but who is asking?). He enjoys Dorian and Viki fighting over him and sort of treats is as a game, as he told Bo. Clint likes the situation because he can have Dorian any time he wants (she’s no challenge) and he can pursue Viki, who is a challenge. Oh, and by the way, Viki ought to tell her housekeeper, Lois, once and for all that the next time she lets Dorian waltz past her and barge into Llanfair, she’s fired. I’d like to see some scenes where Lois is trying to physically restrain Dorian from coming in the front door. Now that would be entertaining. I think even Viki would get a good hoot out of that. I get tired of Lois apologizing and telling Viki that Dorian just busted in and Viki saying it’s okay.
