Our very own OLTL recap writer Ann, was able to attend this year's OLTL Fan Club Luncheon held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on May 6, 2001. Ann put together a wonderful review on the day's events and her moments meeting some of the OLTL stars. Thanks, Ann for another great report!

This is the second time that I’ve attended the OLTL luncheon or party, as the fan club president, Carol Dickson, calls it. There were some differences between this year’s and last year’s, the main one being a change of venue. Last year’s was held at the Marriott Marquis, a huge hotel with a similarly-sized ballroom. This year’s was at the smaller Roosevelt, which did lead to crowding in some areas. More about that later!

After registering, I took a gander at some of the items available for raffle. There was a wide selection of material, ranging from professional quality photos of various cast members, to props such as cover pages of The Sun, to Jessica’s bathrobe. I made my choice and put my tickets in the appropriate cup. I figured that, by placing all my eggs in one basket, so to speak, I’d have an easier time finding out if I’d won anything!

Also on display were copies of Kassie DePaiva’s CD – which I’d recommend to anyone who is a fan of soft ballads – and brochures about Catherine Hickland’s cosmetics line, Cat Cosmetics. Although her products themselves were not being sold that day, anyone interested had the opportunity to have their names placed on a mailing list. It was my understanding that a new catalogue will be out shortly.

As might be expected, the show luncheon attracts a fairly large crowd. I’d estimate that there were approximately 400 people in attendance. Folks were seated at tables of 10, except for those who had purchased their tickets late. They ended up sitting at half tables, up on the balcony. Personally, I think some of them probably had a better view of the front dais than I did, even if they might have felt relegated to the fringes!

One disadvantage of attending events at the same hotel two days in a row was the fact that I overdosed on chicken! The chef was nice enough to have prepared it differently, but I felt so stuffed full of fowl that I don’t believe I’ve had any chicken since then – and I do actually enjoy it as a rule.

Per custom, the event started with the arrival of Alan Needleman (Needles), stage manager, and Laurie Filipi, one of the show’s hairdressers. This duo has spent several years as MCs of the event, and they have their banter down pat. They began by polling the crowd to determine the oldest fan in attendance (she was 86!), the youngest (I’m guessing under 10), the one who’d come the farthest (Seattle, WA), and the ones who’d traveled the least distance (several from Manhattan). All of these folks received some kind of prize.
