• BARBARA NIVEN (LIZ) CHAT TRANSCRIPT

REFLECTIONS BY JILL….

Before I go any further, I want to say that I’m sorry for any of you who missed the live chat with Barbara Niven (Liz) last Thursday night. I have been to a lot of live chats with stars from the show but this was one of the best I can remember. It was exceptionally kind of Barbara to accept the invitation to chat with us, especially right after it was announced that she was let go from the show. Her personality came right through the computer screen. She was friendly, considerate and very caring about her fans. She has a beautiful spirituality about her that comes right through and never seems phony or put on. She truly cares deeply about her fans and gave everyone plenty of time to ask questions and even follow-ups. Her answers were thoughtful and she did not hold back in revealing what she thought about things. Even in the face of being fired from the show in a doomed storyline, she maintains a positive outlook and I have great admiration for her. I wish her all the luck in the world and hope to see her in a better role very soon.

OK…now to last weeks shows. Does anyone else besides me think that Judge Fitzwater deserves a special Humanitarian Award for having to put up with the lunatics in Llanview? This woman has the patience of a saint but when she finally blows up, I laugh my head off. How did she even keep a straight face while Roxy took the stand and butchered the English language in a way that only she could? And poor Roxy…she sure has been dragged through the emotional mud lately, as if her whole life of that kind of treatment wasn’t enough.

I am very intrigued by the Roxy/Max relationship. It still shocks me that Max even shows that he cares. I keep waiting for him to turn his head to the camera and give one of those smirks that show he is yet again pulling the wool over someone’s eyes.

I also enjoyed the scenes with Asa, Rae and Nigel. How ridiculous of Asa to sign those divorce papers without even reading them. What a hoot when the old buzzard found out he had signed away 90% of his fortune to Rae and not just 10%. It is very strange to watch Rae being so Hell-bent on revenge. She is enjoying slamming Asa so much and he sure deserves it, but the role doesn’t fit the Rae that we all know. I wonder if they are ever going to straighten out her character and make her the way she used to be. Maybe if she really gets 90% of Asa’s fortune she can us it for some philanthropic cause and get off the revenge track. Or she could marry Nigel and make Asa the butler…now that I’d love to see.

Yes, Mitch is still making me sick. I wanted so badly for Max to put his lights out in the Palace Bar the other day. Mitch is such an insipid, sad little man. I am so hoping that Natalie doesn’t sleep with him. My opinion is that she won’t because I think that would be just too much for the fans to tolerate and so far, since GT left, it seems like TPTB are giving the fans a bit more of what they want. If there is anyone out there that wants Natalie to sleep with Mitch, don’t tell me. I’d have to hunt you down with a net.

It was nice to finally see RJ in a normal situation with a woman…he and Liz would have had so much promise as a couple if only they weren’t caught in the ickiest storyline ever. And still we have to wonder how Keri is going to find out the truth and what the ramifications of that situation will be.

What is Jen going to do now? Her first mistake was listening to her new “best friend” Marcy. Why they put the character of Marcy on contract is beyond me. Jen needs to give it up already and maybe if her dad didn’t let her skate by when she does the most horrible things, she’d stop trying to be like her mom. I think it’s admirable of Sam to try and understand all the bad things Jen has been doing, but to fawn over her with love and pride is a bit overboard. She should be apologizing to the entire Vega family and she should have been given some punishment by the Judge for what she did.

OK…the best of the week saved for last. I have one question for the Todd and Blair fans. Have you peeled yourselves off the ceiling yet? You must be the happiest bunch of folks in soap land right about now and I have to say, I totally enjoyed all the Todd/Blair scenes, especially hearing him say he loved her and the scenes where he seemed to be emotionally normal in bed with her. Don’t yell at me now….you all know it’s weird to see him under normal marital circumstances, too. I hope he concentrates on helping Natalie and Viki and doesn’t do any “Todd things” (as Blair puts it) for a while. Of course, it wouldn’t bother me a bit if he did a few of those “Todd things” to Mitch. Maybe what Mitch needs is to have to deal with a crazy guy like Todd to really put a scare into him. The normal people of Llanview sure don’t put a crimp in Mitch’s style.

Lots of good stuff is coming our way on One Life To Live. Rumors of more old characters coming back are all over the place. I just hope they do justice to the ones we already have on the canvas and don’t just keep us in the past. So far I see only changes for the better (except for recent firings). Let’s hope the good continues and the “unwatchable” is a thing of the past.

 See ya next week...

FAN FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS

I received the following two requests for tapes of past shows. If anyone can help out with tapes, please write in and I will alert these people. I wish I could help but I stopped saving tapes because I was about to need another apartment to store them…lol! Thanks in advance.

Andrea writes: “Do you know where I can get a copy of Erin Torpey singing "The Look Of Love"? She did so well on that song at the karaoke bar a while ago. Roxy did "These Boots Were Made For Walking" really well too!”

Tamara writes: “I was wondering if you know of anyone that taped last week's show (Jan 15), Erin's last day. I had my VCR set to tape it and it did tape 40 minutes of the show until our stupid television affiliate cut in to bring us some "breaking news" that was so ridiculous and lasted for 20 minutes! So, needless to say, I missed out on the last 20 minutes of the show. I was just sick! If you know of anyone that I could get a copy of the tape from, I would love it.”

Dear Andrea and Tamara:  Hopefully someone will help you out. I also enjoyed those days on the show very much.

Keith writes: “I for one am a fan of Mitch Lawrence, I think he adds lots of drama to the show and make you want to watch to see what’s next up his sleeve. Who do you think will actually kill Mitch, and this time will he be dead for good, or should we expect to see him again years later. Also, do Christian and Natalie ever get together? Are there any plans to use Rex more?”

Dear Keith: There are lots of fans of Mitch, believe me. I just can’t stand any character that is 100% bad. Some people think he has a redeemable spot in his love for Jessica. Personally, I don’t. Maybe when the new Jessica starts on the show and we get more into the story, there will be something decent revealed about Mitch. I am not holding my breath. And yes, if he is killed off, he better be dead for good this time…lol. I was thinking Cristian would kill him, but now I have no idea. This list of suspects is very long. I don’t know about long range plans for Cristian and Natalie and as far as Rex goes, right now I don’t see a really important use for him other than the fact that he is loyal to Natalie. If he goes after the new Jessica, I’m sure it will have a certain “ick” factor for me.

Alison writes: “I have followed One Life to Live for 33 years, but I lost a couple of days around Viki finding out that Jessica was Mitch's daughter - please tell me how twins could have different fathers (I have twins myself and never would suspect that could be a possibility about twins!), and how would Mitch and Viki know when they were born that one was Mitch's and which one was Mitch's - and at what point was a DNA test done to tell if Jessica was related to Mitch? I missed about two days and I haven't been able to find this out in any recap in any magazine or any dialog on the show - please help.”

Dear Alison: Believe it or not, I have read that it is actually possible for two different men to father a set of fraternal twins. You must have missed the show where Viki had a DNA test done for Jessica and Mitch right after he told her the whole ugly story and it was a match, supposedly proving he is her father. Viki did ask him how he was so sure that Jessie was his and not Natalie and he said he was very sure because Dr. Balsam was involved in it all and he was able to tell which twin was which. That was the part I thought was pure bull and hopefully that will be the loophole that makes Mitch being Jessie’s father a complete hoax. I can only hope that happens.

Lisa writes: “I was so upset to see Jessica go, and why did she go? Are Max and Roxy going to get back together. I hope so. They are an odd couple but I like them together.”

Dear Lisa: Erin Torpey left the show because after over 10 years on the show she has decided to spread he wings and see where life takes her. She has moved to California and has many options, such as a singing career. I don’t know if Max and Roxy will get together again and stay that way. I’d love to see it, too, because they are too funny to break up. I especially love the affect she has on Max.
