REFLECTIONS BY JILL….
Boy, it was a really ugly week on One Life to Live last week, wasn’t it? I can tell you one thing…Mr. Tomlin may be gone, but his legacy of lunacy lives on…and on…and on. Gary, is there room in the back of your car for Roscoe Born?
Now don’t get me wrong. I’ve been a fan of Roscoe’s when watching him on several other shows, but what we saw last week on OLTL was just the most horrible display of torture that Viki (and the fans) have had to endure. I don’t remember a lot about the Mitch Lawrence days in the past, but I do remember that I didn’t like him. Something tells me that this time around he is worse…more evil, more disgusting, more terrorizing and most of all, more determined to torture Viki, which I hate so much. The turns this story has taken since Natalie arrived in Llanview have been strange, to say the least, but this latest horror show with Mitch Lawrence is way over the edge. If I were someone who read and enjoyed The National Enquirer, where women gave birth to llamas and cows gave birth to pigs, maybe I would be able to accept this storyline a bit better. Yes, I’m sure that medical science will allow for the fact that there could be two fathers, but with all the tragedy Viki has already had to endure with losing Ben…and all that she went through to find out that Jessica really is her daughter…why do we need this bunk now? And no, “bunk” is not the best word I can come up with…fill in a better one yourselves.
It’s not very often that you see Viki looking truly terrified, but that’s how she looks now and I can’t stand seeing her like this. I can’t stand seeing a little weasel like Mitch Lawrence doing that to her. I hope she fights back hard. A friend of mine read that there has not been a time frame determined yet on Born’s contract. My hope is that the new writers will kill Mitch off much, much sooner than Tomlin had originally planned. Do I seem harsh? Sorry, I can’t stand this storyline and it has to go. My skin crawls every time I see Mitch and Viki together and the other day I was just thinking how cool it would be if they showed that connection between Ben and Viki and flashed over to Ben in his hospital bed with his fingers or toes twitching…knowing that his Blondie was in trouble and needed him. Hah, as if that would ever happen. Nothing that makes sense has happened on OLTL in ages.
Take good old Lindsay, for example. She’s at the point of ridiculous. I can’t believe she brought up Nora stealing all her men the other day…or the fact that Nora made her lose her baby. I guess every time Jen breaks a nail it will be Nora’s fault if Lindsay has anything to say about it. Lindsay has such a short memory. I guess that’s why she can do what she does…the guilt never registers…it just fades away into the clouds.
And what about Jessica? Now she has to deal with the fact that Clint is not her father. This girl is going to be devastated. Just when I think she’s finally got her head on straight and has decided to stop picking on her sister and be a nice person, something goes wrong. I sure do hope that somehow all this Mitch stuff is one big fat lie and the whole mess dies with him.
How has RJ gone so long without finding out that Antonio is the father of Liz’s baby? He sure hasn’t been lurking around enough corners or he’d already know and be plotting the demise of his daughter’s relationship with his favorite cop.
Oh, here’s a question? Is Switzerland the only place to go from Llanview if your mind flips out or if you’re in a deep coma? I laughed so hard when they were going to send Blair to Switzerland for treatment of her insanity. Hey, maybe she could wake Ben up!!! She could sure annoy him out of his peaceful slumber.
Let’s take a minute to talk about Starr. What must be going on in this little girl’s mind, other than whether or not her dear old dad put a fresh stock of live piranhas in her new fish tank? How does she handle all this stuff that’s going on between her mother and father…between her mother and Sam…between reality and the crazy life she lives? I give her credit for not having to be sent to Switzerland.
I guess we need to spend a minute on Natalie’s marriage. Are they kidding me? I couldn’t believe it when I read it in the spoilers and I couldn’t believe they really did it. My guess is for Cristian to knock Mitch off pretty soon…of course sending Cris to jail for a lengthy murder trial. Hey, we could get Nora back on the courtroom…that would be great. Well, I’m trying to make sense…silly me.
I know I always say this, but I can’t wait for the new writing to kick in. I’m hoping that one of these times I will get what I wish for…some good soap watching!!!!!
Well, over at Life With Bonnie the ratings are down a bit. I still think it’s a great show and that they should switch the time slots…someone, take my advice…PLEASE!

Dear Catherine: Oh my gosh…I hope Viki never turns into Niki again for any
reason. I have had enough of Niki for a lifetime and no, I don’t think Viki will
kill Mitch…I think it’s going to be Cristian.

Sischrish writes: “Do you think Blair and Todd will ever get it right? Todd needs something to jolt him out of his bad attitude character and into a really nice guy. I think that would definitely suit him better. With Viki as his sister you would think that they would be a lot alike. Maybe as a nicer guy he's got more of a chance of finding a nice romantic relationship. Maybe with Cassie?”
Dear Sischrish: Well, I don’t really see Todd with Cassie, although I do
love her character, but I do agree with you about him needing to be nicer and
change his ways. The only time I’m really able to tolerate much of him is when
his vulnerabilities come out and he acts human…which isn’t often, but it’s a
treat when it happens.

Jsciortino1277 writes: “Why do you seem to hate Gary Tomlin so much? I think he's done a pretty good job. He gave us the great storyline with Viki/Natalie/Jessica that combined rich history with new twists that made it edge-of-your-seat watchable! Plus, we won the Best Drama Series award! Not that I care, because I'll watch OLTL even if it's as horrible as you're portraying it is (Trust me, it isn't!). He did a way better job that that character killer Jill Farren Phelps did, and lets not forget boring Maxine Levinson. I applaud "GT" and wish him well. I think half the problem is ABC putting such a tight hold on the creative opportunities GT and the writers try to carry out. Jill, give Mr. Tomlin a break. He was one of our best Executive Producers.
Dear Jsciortino1277: Well, I’m all for having your own opinion and I respect yours, for sure, but I don’t agree about Tomlin doing a great job at all. He has taken away the mainstay of daytime television…romance…and the show is never the same without it. I shudder to think what the show would be like if there were no reigns at all on GT’s “creativity.” I, too, wish GT well….I just wish him well somewhere else.
