Sam’s Place

Jen opens the door to find Cris there. She asks if he is planning on giving her a hard time again, but he tells her to relax; he has brought coffee and donuts from his mother’s diner. She lets him in and asks if he went to the movies yesterday, but he says that he’d rather wait and go when she can go with him. He asks how things went with her father. She tells Cris that she pretty much got the third degree.

Outside, Rae stops Sam and tells him that she in not comfortable with the situation, if the client doesn’t want therapy it won’t work. Sam tells her that he is just hoping that she can draw Jen out. Jen doesn’t even need to know that Rae is there in a professional capacity, as long as Sam knows that anything that Jen says won’t be repeated. Rae tells him that she is legally bound to not reveal anything that Jen might say, but wonders why she is there. Sam tells her that his daughter needs help, but won’t let him help her and he wants to give her another option. Rae agrees and they go in.

Sam introduces Rae to Jen. Jen offers to head out to the kitchen and let them talk, but Sam says he hopes that she’ll stay and talk to Rae. Jen thinks that maybe some other time would be better, as Cris is there now, but Sam hopes that Cris won’t mind the interruption. Jen tells him that it isn’t a good time. Rae tells them that they could get together another time and Cris calls her Dr. Rae, saying that he enjoys her advice column. He tells Jen that Rae is a psychiatrist, and Rae corrects him, telling him that she is a psychologist. Jen asks her father if he has brought a shrink here to see her.

The Break Bar

Lindsay enters the bar, which is closed, and finds RJ. He tells her that her timing stinks; the Oscar party isn’t until Sunday and the bar is now closed. She is happy about that, saying that they won’t be interrupted. RJ tells her that she is the interruption and she needs to stay away from him and his. She tells him that they are on the same side, but he tells her to leave. He knows that she wants something. She wants to know if he was able to get more of the drug and if he dealt with Colin. He thinks he might need to ask her the same question. She says that she did nothing, even though she threatened to, and he wonders if it was because of the letters. She says that they are Colin’s insurance policy, unless, of course, he is dead. "You wouldn’t know anything about that, because you didn’t go near him, right?" RJ asks. Lindsay tells him that she did not. She tells him that if Colin is dead, the letters will be sent to Bo and Sam and then she and RJ might as well be dead, too. RJ thinks that he may have decided to relocate, but Lindsay insists that they need to get their hands on the letters and destroy them. RJ points out that there would be nothing to stop Colin from writing new letters, unless he were dead. He implies that Lindsay may know more than she is saying.

The Hospital

Melanie is sleeping the hall outside Nora’s room. She dreams that Colin is carrying an unconscious Nora out of her room.

Sam’s Place

Jen thanks her father, saying that he must think that she is whacked out and wonders where the straight jacket is. Sam proposes that Cris give Jen a minute to think about things, but Cris wants to hear what Jen thinks. She says that she might as well get it over with and thanks him for the donuts, as he leaves.

Jen asks if her father brought Rae there because she is a shrink. Rae tells her that it is not as ominous as it sounds. Jen says that her father thinks that she is crazy, but Rae assures her that he does not. Jen wants to know what her father has told Rae. Rae tells her that she has learned that her parents’ divorce was tough on her and that she is still dealing with the fallout. Rae assures Jen that this is not a therapy session; Jen is happy to hear that, saying there will never be one. Rae adds that while that is her choice, it is often a good idea to use an objective third party as a sounding board. Jen wonders what they are going to sound off about - her dear uncle Colin perhaps. She says that she’d be happy if she never heard his name again; her mother is right. They should all pretend that Colin never existed. Sam wants to know what Lindsay has said to her.

The Break Bar

RJ reminds Lindsay that Colin had the big dinner to announce that he was leaving town. Lindsay points out that that he said that blackmailers never go away. He agrees, saying that as long as they breathe, you can count on hearing from them. She wants to know what RJ knows, but he tells her to relax; Colin has disappeared with no sign of foul play. This is exactly what Lindsay wanted, but she is jumping out of her skin and RJ can’t figure out why. Lindsay reminds him that Colin tortured her for months. RJ wonders what she knows that is scaring her to death. She thinks that, dead or alive, Colin may still win. She can’t take anymore; she just wants it to be over. RJ tells her not to call him if and when the good doctor comes back asking for money.

Cris comes in and tells Lindsay that the bar isn’t open yet. She tells him that she was looking for him. She wanted him to know that Jen is going to fine now and he doesn’t have to be concerned about her anymore. Cris wonders what that means, and Lindsay says that she’ll be getting support from her family now. Cris says that she needs a friend, but Lindsay doesn’t see it that way. She thinks that he is a big part of the problem that Jen has been having.

The Hospital

Melanie, in her dream, watches Colin carry Nora out. She then wakes up, panics, and goes to check Nora’s room. Nora is nowhere to be seen and Melanie becomes hysterical. She sees Antonio in the hall, telling him that Colin has taken Nora away. Antonio phones the station to inform them of the situation.

Colin’s

Nora is in the bedroom at Colin’s, looking through the crime scene, when she hears someone outside the door. It is Bo, who comes in and asks her if she isn’t supposed to be in the hospital, telling her that Colin is dangerous. He asks her what she is doing sneaking around Colin’s bedroom. She points out that he was sneaking and nearly gave her a heart attack, to which he replies that he is a cop and this is a crime scene; he is supposed to be here, she is not. She tells him that she has every right; the crime was perpetrated against her. He says that she is going back to the hospital, but she argues, saying that she intends to find out what happened. Bo tells her that she needs to stop playing detective, but she tells him that she is not playing; she is serious. Passivity has never been her strong suit. He says that he needs to know what she is up to; maybe he would surprise her and help her out.

She tells him that her feelings are so real and so powerful; the details are just out of reach. She wants to reach out and grab them, so she can find out what happened to her. Not remembering is a horrible feeling. Bo asks how she got there, and she says that she just walked out. Lanie was sleeping in the chair. He wonders what he is going to do with her. She explains that she had to come back and find out if the answers were here.

The Break Bar

Cris agrees that Jen has some problems, but says that he is not one of them. Lindsay tells him not to take it personally, but Jen’s problems are family matters. There were things that weren’t resolved before she left for school. Cris says not to let him stop them, but she thinks that he is distracting Jen. She doesn’t want him to worry about Jen; Jen needs time away from him.

Sam’s Place

Sam asks Rae if she would give he and Jen a moment alone to talk. Rae agrees and says that they can do it another time. Sam says he would like her to stay and she offers to go and make some coffee. Jen snidely thanks her father, and he explains that Rae is a good person and a gifted therapist. Jen is angry that he has brought someone else into the mess, and he says that he wouldn’t have had to if she would tell him what the problem is. He knows that Colin is part of the problem, but says that they need to talk about what happened with him. They need to bring it out into the open and find a healthy way to deal with it. He thinks that Jen is keeping something from him. Jen asks if that isn’t their family specialty, but he says that he wants that to change. He tells her that they cannot pretend that Colin never existed. Jen says that Colin is gone for good and no one ever has to look at him again. Sam wants to know how she is so sure, and she says that she doesn’t. Sam tells her that things aren’t that simple and wonders what she has done with all of her angry feelings toward him. She wonders what Sam has done with his and when he admits that he has struggled, she says that maybe he needs the therapist. She reminds Sam that he has told her that she shouldn’t feel guilty about going to Colin when she was younger. Sam agrees, saying that he should have been there to protect her. Sam tells her that Colin is not gone as long as Jen is still damaged by him. Sam says that he feels rage toward Colin, too. Jen says that Colin deserves whatever he gets and Sam begs her to talk to Rae, but she tells him that she won’t talk to a stranger. She doesn’t need a therapist because she isn’t nuts. He thinks that sometimes everybody needs a little help, but Jen tells him that she wants to be left alone and leaves.

The Hospital

Antonio is on his cell phone with Bo, who tells him that he has Nora and is bringing her back to the hospital. The plainclothesman that is in the hall with he and Melanie says that he’ll call into the Station House and inform everyone. Antonio asks Melanie if she is ok, and she says that she is. She knew that it was a dream and that it would have been impossible for Colin to have taken Nora. Antonio wonders how she is so sure.

Colin’s

Bo tells Nora that she doesn’t have to put herself through this again, but Nora says that she does. She says that the memories are there, even though she can’t seem to pull them up; she knows that they are even closer. She tells Bo that Colin tried to seduce her and thought that she wanted him to; she asks how mad he could have been. Nora then remembers something else. She says that Colin came in with a washbasin filled with water and a cloth and put it on the table and bathed her. She remembers thinking that the water was warm, but can’t remember if was last night or last summer. Then she says that she remembers the pain in her leg and her hip, so it must have been last summer. Nora is angry, because the memories come and go and are jumbled and confused. Bo tells her that she is figuring it out now; she needs to give it a little more time. Nora tells him that she wants her life and her memories back. Bo tells her that they have not identified the drugs that she was given yet, but that her will is rather strong; she made it there from the hospital. Nora asks Bo to pretend to be Colin.

Sam’s Place

Sam is talking to Rae and tells her that she was right; he never should have sprung her on Jen that way. Rae tells him that he loves his daughter; she is lovely, but in trouble. Rae thinks there is something going on with her besides the divorce. He says that he used to always know what Jen was thinking, but now he has to guess. Rae asks what his best guess as to what Jen is thinking would be right now. He tells her that she has been through so much and is so young and vulnerable. Rae points out the she has a family that loves and supports her. Sam wonders what you do when the choice you have is between the lesser of two evils. Rae asks if Sam thinks that that is where Jen is at right now. When he asks how you live with the choices that you make, Rae asks Sam if they are talking about Jen right now or if they are talking about Sam.

The Break Bar

Lindsay tells Cris that she trusts that they understand each other. Cris points out that Will told him to stay away from Jen, too, but if he had, she would be in Switzerland right now. Lindsay wants to know what that means. Cris tells her about when he found Jen heading for the airport, and Lindsay thinks that she may have been better off. Cris can’t believe that she would want Jen gone. When she tells him to stay out of their family matters, he reminds her of what he did for Will and how the police would have found him right after the train wreck, if it hadn’t been for him. Lindsay tells him that it doesn’t give him the right to meddle in their lives. At this point, Jen comes in and tells her mother to stop.

Lindsay tells her that she was only trying to protect her. Jen tells her that she can protect herself; she thought they had an understanding. While she doesn’t like everything that her mother has done, she doesn’t mouth off to her friends about it, not that she has any. Jen also points out that Cris saved her life. Lindsay apologizes to both and leaves, saying she has a meeting. Jen tells Cris that Lindsay has no right to hassle him. He asks what happened with her dad and the shrink. She says that she doesn’t want to talk about it and the traps that people are springing on her.

The Hospital

Melanie says that she can’t be sure that Colin won’t be back, maybe it was just wishful thinking. Antonio agrees, saying that he knows that Colin gave her a really hard time. He wonders if she may have any idea where Colin might be. She tells him that she doesn’t, but has told Bo everything she knows.

Colin’s

Bo wonders what Nora means and she says that she wants him to put himself in Colin’s shoes. She begs him to do this for her and he finally agrees. She asks him to stand by the dresser and to pretend to be Colin. She decides that he needs a prop, and they find a syringe in one of the drawers. When he hold is up, Nora sinks into the chair in fright.

Sam’s Place

Sam thanks Rae again for being gracious. She tells him that he is a good man and to hang in there. After she has left, Sam takes a pair of muddy shoes outside and cleans off the bottom.

The Break Bar

Jen tells Cris that she is in the mood for some mindless fun, so he asks RJ if he can leave and the two go off in search of a good time. After they have left, RJ bends down to pick something up off the floor and we see his muddy shoes.

The Hospital

Antonio asks Melanie if she is ok and if there is anything that he can do to help. She tells him that she doesn’t think that there is anything that anyone can do right now and leaves.

Colin’s

Bo tells Nora that she is pushing herself too hard. She tells him that she has to recover her memories before somebody comes after her again. He tries to get her back to the hospital, but she won’t let him, saying that she must regain her memory. He asks her what is next and she lies down on the bed and asks him to stand across the room. She asks him to come at her with the needle and he does. As he does it, there is someone in the hall watching.
