ONE LIFE TO LIVE RECAP FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2001

<<< BACK TO RECAPS  INDEX

Outside Crossroads, Ben insists that he’s fine. Bo examines his brother and
discovers that the bullet grazed his shoulder. Gina is livid. “I’m going to
kill whoever did this. How dare they?” Viki eyes Ms. Russo with suspicion.

Moments later, alone with her goon in the bar, Gina slaps him. The shot was
supposed to miss, she yells. “Rourke said…” the shooter begins, but Gina
interrupts him. “Rourke works for me,” she reminds the man. He pledges his
loyalty, and asks to be a part of any future plan. She remains tight-lipped
about what that might be, but assures the man that something is in the
works.

At the hospital, Renee swears to Asa that Ben is their son. Asa vehemently
denies that he could have any part in siring a low-life Rappa-Davidson. He
suggests that Ben’s father is one of Renee’s other customers. Max enters the
room and demands that Asa stop insulting Renee. She turns on Max and angrily
informs him that she can fight her own battles. Max wants a word with Asa,
so Renee leaves. The two men discuss their deal. Max is certain that Asa
wouldn’t want to go to jail, so he’ll keep their secret. “It might be worth
going down if I could take you with me,” Asa muses.

Viki, Ben and Bo arrive at Llanview Hospital. A nurse heads off to find a
doctor as Ben jokes that Viki should have taken him to the attic, instead.
“I get great medical care there,” he smiles. Viki teases that he gets great
care, but it’s not medical. Renee emerges from Asa’s room. She’s stunned to
see Ben there, and her concern is visible. She immediately masks it,
however, and walks away. Viki follows her. “He’s your son. Doesn’t that
matter to you?” Viki queries her long-time friend. Renee’s reaction clues
Viki in to the fact that Renee is furious with her, but Viki reminds Renee
that she was only standing by her husband, as Renee has done with Asa so
many times. Viki apologizes for hurting Renee, but she’s not sorry about
keeping the secret. She suggests that this could be about happiness, if
Renee is willing to see what a wonderful gift she’s been given. Renee
counters that Ben could have told her, but Viki notes that Ben would not
have wanted to put Renee in a position of having to lie to Asa. Renee tells
Viki that she needs time, but that she’ll consider what Viki has said.

While Viki is busy talking to Renee, Gina sneaks into Ben’s room. She rushes
to him and envelops him in a hug. Ben assures Gina that he is fine. He
insists that he won’t change his life because of this latest incident, but
Gina urges him to let her take him into hiding – just long enough for Rourke
to decide to let bygones be bygones. Viki enters in time to hear Gina
suggest, once again, that she take Ben away. Sensing that Viki is watching,
Gina turns around. She swears that her only concern is for Ben’s safety –
and Viki’s, of course. The two women exchange barbs before Ben refuses Gina’
s offer. “I’m not running and I’m not leaving my wife,” he says, pointedly.
Gina maintains that he’s making a big mistake, and stalks off. Viki follows
her, and calls her on her behavior. “Are you this furious because Ben was
shot, or because your plan didn’t work?” she queries. Viki wonders why Gina
reacted so angrily to Ben’s shooting. Gina responds that she’s furious
because she has managed to escape the life, but Ben hasn’t been able to.
“End of story.” “Like hell it is,” Viki mutters to Gina’s retreating back.

“I have lawyers,” Asa reminds Max, adding that they’ll eat Max alive. Max
counters that he’s the one holding the winning hand, since Asa would end up
doing time with hardened criminals, while he’d be in with the white collar
kind. Asa smugly suggests that Max would be “in demand” no matter where he
is. Max decides to call Asa’s bluff. “I’m ready to tell Bo everything,” he
states. “Go ahead. Talk, Max. I’m all ears,” says Bo, who has entered the
room in time to hear Max’s last words. Max clams up, and Asa is no more
forthcoming. Bo is stymied by their silence, until Max appears ready to
spill the beans. He remarks that he doesn’t think Bo has a clue as to what
Asa is capable of. “Asa is guilty,” Max begins, until Asa intervenes. “If Bo
is gonna hear this, he’s gonna hear it from me.”

Asa lies to Bo that he’s always known that Max was a fraud. Bo,
disbelieving, reminds Asa of his reaction to Todd’s bombshell – he had a
heart attack. Asa insists that it was the preposterous idea of Ben being his
son that got to him. He ‘confesses’ that Max told him, right from the start.
Asa was too smart to be conned, Max explains, so he let him in on the plan.
Bo wonders why his father kept playing the game. He admired Max’s guts, Asa
admits, before adding, “He felt like a son.” Bo sends Max out of the room,
then demands Asa tell him what Max is holding over his head. While Asa
sticks to his story, Bo still isn’t buying. He’s incredulous that Asa is
allowing himself to be publicly humiliated. Bo recalls a time in his youth
when Asa urged him never to let a bully win. Together, they can beat Max, Bo
declares. Asa continues to stonewall his son, who heads for the door. “You
change your mind, pick up a phone,” he suggests.

Bo runs into Max in the hallway. The latter wonders if he’s under arrest. Bo
informs him that he’s free to go, but adds that his time will come. Max
re-enters Asa’s room, laughing at the way he and his Pa worked so well
together. Asa orders him out, and vows that, if Max calls him Pa again, he’
ll shoot him without a trace of regret. Before leaving, Max lets Asa know
that Ben has been shot – but he doubts Asa cares, unless he ordered this
hit, too.

Todd stares at Blair through the bars of her jail cell. He demands that she
tell him the truth, but she insists that she already has. Todd refuses to
believe her. Blair reiterates that she was drugged, and asks Todd if he ever
saw her move. Unwilling to consider the possibility that she’s right, Todd
accuses Blair of never loving him, but simply wanting to assure herself of
his silence. “I love you, damn it! I still do,” Blair shouts. She explains
that Max confessed because she threatened him with a gun. They argue over
who has betrayed whom. He holds fast to his belief that she lied to him
every step of the way. “I did not make love to Max,” Blair exclaims. She
opines that Todd fell for Max’s trick, and she thinks Todd got exactly what
he wanted. He’s so afraid of making a commitment, she states, that he
grasped at anything that would get him out of it. She taunts him about being
out-manipulated by Max. The duo exchange insults and Blair suggests that
Todd doesn’t think anyone could love him. She orders him to go. “I don’t
need you in my life.” Todd leaves, and Blair bursts into tears.

Upstairs, Skye arrives at the station, alerted by Nora that something
important is about to happen. Hank appears, and informs the two women that
the charges against Skye have been dropped. Skye worries that it’s a trick,
but Nora reassures her that it’s legit. “I’m free!” Skye exclaims, joyfully.
Rae appears and offers her congratulations, which Skye wants no part of. Rae
hopes to buy Skye and Nora a celebratory dinner, but Skye refuses.
Momentarily defeated, Rae reminds Skye that she’ll always be there for her.
“You could have at least been civil,” Nora berates her client, once Ms.
Cummings has left. Skye, unwilling to give Rae an inch, declares that she
doesn’t need her. “You need a mother who could teach you manners and
compassion,” Nora counters, before walking away. Skye is about to follow,
when her arm is gripped by Todd. Nora orders Todd to get his hands off Skye,
and he reluctantly complies. Todd and Skye exchange barbs as he attempts to
get to the truth about the setup. Skye’s retort is sarcastic, and she
reveals nothing.

Alone with Nora, Todd tries to walk away. “I’m not done with you yet,” Nora
declares. The two trade insults, with Nora easily holding her own. Todd
insists that he’ll answer one question honestly. Nora quizzes him as to his
motives for hiding her in the convent – was it really just so he could play
the hero in Sam’s eyes? “Yes,” Todd states, simply. For his part, Todd wants
to know if Max and Skye set him up. Although Nora doesn’t tell him flat out,
she suggests that he try reading between the lines to figure it out himself.

Before leaving the station, Nora complains to Hank that Todd’s deal is
totally unacceptable. Hank reminds her that Todd’s evidence freed her client
and he assures her that, one day, they’ll get Todd. An officer approaches
Nora with an envelope. “Oh, my God,” she exclaims, as she reads its
contents.

Downstairs, Skye pays Blair a visit. Blair urges her nemesis to do her
gloating and be done with it. Skye agrees that she came to gloat, but that
she’s just not feeling it. She will figure out what she does want, though,
Skye adds, and Blair “will be the last to know.”

In a parking garage, Max approaches his car. Todd steps out of the shadows
and knocks Max out with a tire iron.
