One Life to Live Recap for Tuesday, May 6, 2003

BEAUTY, THE BEAST, & MYSTERIO!

We open with Cris painting Roxy's mural. Natalie comes rushing through, mumbling about the endless cans of hairspray that Roxy has. She stops to admire Cris' work, and they stare at each other. Rex comes in, excusing himself for interrupting. She and Rex exchange small talk and she leaves. H quickly tells Cris that they need to talk.

In the backroom, Roxy is sashaying around the office, humming to herself. Back at Asa's mansion, Nigel is doing the same. Asa is storming about, wondering where Jessica is. Nigel continues to hum, and Asa is annoyed, What the hell is going on with him? He has been acting damned weird ever since they saw that hypnotist in Atlantic City. And where the hell is Jessie? She was supposed to be here hours ago.

Nigel flinches. He forgot to call Miss Buchanan, he tells Asa. Asa is furious. He tells Nigel that he pays him to do a job, and he'd damned well better do it. He goes on to threaten to close down Roxy's shop so that Nigel won't be tempted to hang around there anymore. Nigel panics, telling Asa that he only hangs around the shop to protect Asa's investment, and Asa scoffs at the word "investment". He tells Nigel that he only financed the place to use it as a tax write-off.

BATTLEGROUND LLANFAIR MEETS LAW & ORDER:

Flash over to the Llanfair underground basement, Viki is still smashing things, taking a break to study a file she discovers. She pauses as she hears footsteps approaching, and she tucks the file away.

We slip over to the precinct and Antonio has just brutally slammed the phone down onto its cradle. Nora winces, asking him if he's at least Mirandized the equipment first. Antonio tells her that he's just frustrated because every lead he had on Mitch Lawrence has turned out to be a dead end. Nora tells him not to fret, wherever Mitch is, they'll find him.

Back at Llanfair, Dorian frantically searches through the closet looking for the tape recorder. She asks herself where it could be, Blair told her that it was in the closet. WHERE IS IT?

WEEELLLLL.....

Mitch has it! Henchman A has brought Mitch the equipment, revealing that he discovered a very interesting tape in it. He plays the tape for Mitch, and there's breathing on it. Mitch immediately puts two and two together, and becomes infuriated when he realizes that Dorian was behind a scheme to make him think he was going crazy.

The footsteps turned out to be Jessica's. Both mother and daughter are surprised to see the other one there, and Jessica scolds her for coming to Llanfair alone. Viki tells her that she had to come alone, to face her past demons and get to the bottom of the Llanfair mess. She assures Jess that something brilliant has come out of her trip. She shows Jessica the file, which contained a note to Mitch in Victor's handwriting depicting the details of their arrangement...Jessie's heart for Llanfair. They head upstairs, and as they talk further about the nfile, Jessie's cell phone rings. It's Nigel. Jessica is surprised to hear that the investors interested in her art pieces are arriving that evening, but she tells Nigel that she'll be there as soon as possible. Viki tells her to go ahead, she has to deal with her discoveries. Jess tells her that she will NOT leave Viki alone in Llanfair.

Viki gives in, saying that she's going to the police station anyway. Dorian comes downstairs at that point, telling Viki that she'll join her on the trip, so she can press charges for trespassing while they're at it. Jess reminds Dorian that she lives in Llanfair as well, and she invited Viki over. Viki tells Jess to go to Asa, and she'll deal with Dorian. Jess leaves, and the women face off. Dorian reminds Viki that SHE is the lady of Llanfair now, so any property in the home belongs to her. Viki scoffs at her, and Dorian threatens to have Viki arrested. Viki says she'll take her chances. Why is Dorian getting her skirt in a knot anyway? It's not as if Viki is taking one of her many purses.

Dorian tells her that she's just concerned that Viki may be taking something that Mitch bought for her as a gift. She misses him so much. Viki grins. Oh, does she really? Why, yes, of course!
Then why is Dorian trying to convince Mitch that he's going mad? Don't try to deny it, Jessie told her all about it...(Jessie gossips about EVERYTHING, it seems!)

Viki asks her why she's going to all the trouble to be n Llanfair. Why is she putting Blair in the middle? Doesn't he realize that she's risking Blair's life and putting the children at risk of becoming orphans? Dorian furiously tells Viki that she would NEVER put Starr and Jack in harm's way! Get out, Viki! Get out of MY house!

Gladly, Viki says, turning to leave. Dorian tells her that she'll take that file, too. Viki tells her, in that case, call the police. Dorian makes no move to do so, and Viki says, "I thought so."
She turns to leave, then turns back to Dorian and tells her to be careful. If Mitch finds out of what she's up to, he'll kill her. Dorian says, "Don't tell me u care about me?"

"I don't want Mitch to hurt ANYONE else, even you!" And she walks away.

Jessica heads to the gallery, where she and Asa have a brief discussion about the art. Asa leaves with Nigel, and Jessica heads inside to make a call. A man, later identified as Henchman Johnson, emerges from behind the wall by the elevator, and heads inside. He starts poking around, and the lights suddenly go out before a flashlight is beaming in his face. Jessica tells him to back away slowly, she has a gun. Johnson asks her if she's Jessica. He works for her father, and he asked him to check in on her. Jessica tells him that she's worried about him as well, so take her to him.

Back at the precinct, Antonio and Nora are butting heads trying to piece together the sketchy leads on Mitch. Antonio informs her that he found out that the Lawrence family lived in a house on a lake, and Nora says...A house, on a lake, in Pennsylvania...THAT'S helpful!"

The phone rings, and Antonio is upset by the news the caller delivered. He jumps up in a hurry, telling the caller to put a description of the car out and get some men to follow her. He explains to a baffled Nora that he had some people watching Jess, and he was just informed that they saw her leave with a strange man voluntarily. Nora asks him if he thinks the man works for Mitch, Antonio says yes. He bolts out the door. A little while later, Viki comes in and spots Nora.

Nora asks her what she's doing there, and Viki tells her that although she was looking for Antonio, she's delighted to find Nora. She shares the file info, and Nora gets excited. This could be exactly what they need to overturn Judge Grafton's ridiculous ruling. (Well, GEEEEE, ya THINK??)

Viki tells Nora that she got the feeling that Dorian wasn't being totally honest, and she believes that Dorian may know something that will help them get to the bottom of all this. She tells her that Jessica told her of some strange goings-on as well. Speaking of Jess, has Nora seen her? Nora is hesitant to reply, and Viki presses her to spit it out. Nora tells her of Antonio's phone call, and now the ladies race out the door.

BATTLEGROUND LLANFAIR: THE DEVIL'S HIDEOUT!

Mitch angrily tells his henchman that he's due to have a confrontation with his beloved wife and teach her a thing or two about betrayal. His cell phone rings, and he warns the caller that this had better be good news. Johnson tells him that he found Jess, and she wants to see him. Mitch instructs him to bring her to him. Johnson asks him if he's sure he wants Jessie knowing where he is. Is he sure she can be trusted? Mitch barks at him to treat his daughter with the same respect as he treats him.

He gets off the phone and informs Henchman A that Jess is on her way. Henchman A, too, asks if he's sure she can be trusted. He would hate to see Mitch betrayed by his own flesh and blood. Mitch says that he would hate that, too.

Jessie finally arrives, and Mitch dismisses his gophers. He and Jess discuss the history of the lake house. It was his childhood home, where his father beat him and Walker, and eventually met his demise. Jessie asks him how Papa Lawrence died, and Mitch says in the flames of righteousness.
Jessie asks him to be more specific, and Mitch explains how his father had two forms of pleasure in life: beating his sons and spending time on an old cabin cruiser. He got drunk one night, went to the boat, and it went up in flames...the flames of righteousness.

He shifts the conversation, asking her why she insisted on coming to him. She disguises her contempt by telling him that she was concerned about him. She feels responsible for his blindness, and she doesn't want anything to happen to him. Besides, she also wanted to let him know that Dorian was trying to make him think he was crazy. Mitch tells her that he's completely aware of Dorian's tricks, but Jessie coming to him with the news means a lot to him. He goes over to her, stroking her hair and planting a kiss on her cheek....(EWWWW!) He tells her that he has to leave on an urgent business matter, but will she please wait for him to return? She says she will. A few seconds later, Antonio breaks open the front door, screaming, "Police!"

She looks at him in shock, and he asks her where Mitch is. She tells him that he isn't there, and he tells her that he will not let her handle Mitch by herself.....

Taking a break from this storyline for just a brief time....

Cris and Rex continue their hush-hush conversation. Rex informs him that the man who needs the driver is calling a meeting as they speak. Cris tells him that he can't leave yet. Natalie is expecting them to have a romantic evening. Rex tells him that he can always find someone else to do the job, and Cris hurriedly tells him not to do that. They had to stop talking a few times, as Natalie had walked in on them, and when she left again, Cris tells Rex that he'll be at the meeting. Rex leaves, as Nigel walks in. He and Nigel discuss Asa. Cris asks him if it's normal for him to run errands for Asa so late in the evening, and Nigel says that when working for Asa, anything is normal. Cris asks him how he can stand it. He's only just started working for Asa, and he feels like quitting. Nigel tells him that he always thought something better would come along...he quickly hurries off in search of Roxy.

Natalie arrives and tells Cris that she's almost ready to go home with him, but Cris tells her that he has to cancel. Buchanan duty calls. He leaves her with a kiss.

In the backroom, Nigel and Roxy are all over each other. He tells her that he just had to come and see her. He's dreading Asa's demand that he leave to Japan for a month, but he promises Roxy that he will be quitting his job with Asa to wed Roxy...(GIGGLE!)

Natalie walks in, but doesn't notice them as she walks right back out. Nigel and Roxy takes that as a clue to stop, and he heads out to leave. Natalie stops Nigel, asking him if he knows what errands Asa would have Cristian running so late. Nigel tells her that since Asa is at home asleep, he couldn't imagine what Cris would be doing for Asa.

BATTLEGROUND LLANFAIR: THE FINALE:

Dorian resumes her frantic search for the tape recorder. She's in the library, taking things apart from the shelves as the phone rings. She answers it to hear Mitch on the other end, and we get a view of Dorian through the scope of a sniper's gun. Slowly, her blurred form comes into clear view, right between the bullseye.

"Darling, I'm so glad you called. I was worried about you, since you were having those hallucinations."

"The funny thing is, as soon I left Llanfair, they ceased."

"There's nothing strange about that. Sometimes a change of scenery will clear the head."

"Or maybe it was that I needed to get away from you."

"Honey, don't joke about things like that," she says with a nervous chuckle.

"I never joke," says the dark, serious voice.

"Just know this," continues the demonic voice, "I don't take kindly to betrayal."

"Betrayal?" Flash to the front door, where Nora and Viki are approaching...

"Goodbye, Dorian?"

"Goodbye? Mitch, what are you...."

Silence. Slow motion.

Viki rings the bell, Dorian turns to face the door. The sniper's gun barrel comes forward through a bush. A bullet fires, the window shatters, Dorian falls.....
