One Life to Live Recap for Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Hey, Scott, KC, JoAnn, Carol, Curtis and Ann! This one's for you!
Hey, I DID IT!! I learned how to work my Whitelighter powers! I orbed into the offices of TPTB and magically adjusted the script! WOO-HOO!
I'm not kidding! I have proof! I'll point it out as I go.
You can thank me later, folks. For now, let's go to the recap.
ALL IN THE FAMILY: REUNIONS
Viki is on the phone talking to Clint. We viewers hear the middle of the conversation, where Viki's end of the conversation lets us know that she had just informed Clint that he is the father of not just one, but TWO daughters; and they're not just two girls, they're two fraternal TWIN girls.
She tells him that she doesn't understand it either, but she promises to keep him informed as she goes on a quest for the truth.
There's a persistent knock on the door, and she hangs up with Clint to find out who it is. She is shocked to see her little brother on the opposite side.
Todd rushes inside and starts rambling on about needing her help. She's still in shock and stays silent for a bit, then snaps out of her daze and tells him that she's heard all about the naughty things he's done. She gives him fair warning that Blair isn't likely to let him get near the children again.
He tells her he knows that, and that's why he came. He needs her help in that area. Viki stares at his pacing figure in disbelief. Is he serious? He tells her that he is. Here's the plan. Call Blair and pretend that she wants to spend time with her niece and nephew. Then Viki is to drop the kids off at Todd's cabin and leave.
Viki flashes her gorgeous smile and tells him that there's no way she's going to assist him in that demented plan. Todd asks her why not? She tells him that what he did was horrendous. To tell Blair that her baby was dead, then give him away was unforgivable. Todd brushes her words aside saying that he brought the baby back, so no harm was done. And why is Viki so heated? SHE was the one who told him that bringing the baby back made up for all of that. Viki tells him that he's flipping out. She would never have said such an atrocious thing. He reminds her of the exact time that she said it. She was in the sun room, drinking a beer..
"OH, wait," Viki says, wincing as if she were in pain, "That wasn't me."
"Sure it was," Todd says, "unless you're telling me that it was another lady who looked exactly like you."
"It wasn't me," Viki reiterates, "It was Niki Smith."
"Umm..oh," Todd says, settling into an awkward silence. A few minutes later, he says,
"I thought that all of your little playmates went back inside to play with each other."
Viki smiles a little, then says that she thought so, too. But Niki had a secret to tell, so she came out and has been in control for months. Todd seems affected by this, and he dares to ask her what the secret was. Viki tells him that she doesn't know the whole story, but she does know that Jessica is her biological daughter after all.
Todd beams brightly, and says with excitement,
"See? I knew it! I told you that demented red-head wasn't your..."
"...Hold it, Todd. Natalie is my daughter also. The girls are fraternal twins. I gave birth to two girls back then. The obstetrician stole one of them, and Allison switched Natalie with Jessica."
Todd ponders over the shocking info, then says, in his "Todd" way..
"Now you see, here's the thing. I KNOW why someone would want to take MY kids away from me. But why would anyone want to take your kid away from you?"
Viki is silent, then sadly says that she doesn't know. Then Todd tells her that there's another strange thing about the whole situation. Why would anyone want to switch TWINS?
There is another silence. One in which Todd is uncomfortable, so he reacts the only way he knows how...he steers the conversation back to his request for Viki to help him nab his children.
Viki again shoots him down. No way, no how. You've been gone for God knows how long, and...wait a minute. Where were you, exactly?
Todd briefly recounts his deserted island experience. He tells a smirking Viki about having to survive on berries and leaves for months, and Viki outright laughs in his face. Yeah, right! Todd says he's serious. She laughs and tells him to explain how he managed to escape from the island.
He tells her that he built a raft. This, folks, makes Viki roar with laughter. Then she decides to give Todd the benefit of the doubt. She asks him, hypothetically, who was on the island with him.
"Because I KNOW you weren't alone," Viki says, "You are not handy, and you couldn't survive for ten seconds without assistance, so spill it!"
Todd breaks down and tells him that Tea and Ross were with him. Now Viki knows he's serious and she freaks. Where are they now? Todd shrugs his shoulders with disinterest and says that they wanted to stay. Viki tells him that he's lying and how, she repeats, HOW can he have such a blatant disregard for human life? Where is the island?
"I don't know," Todd says, again, with disinterest.
Viki forces him to give her SOMETHING to go on. He tells her that it all started with Maui. She says, good, they're getting somewhere. Now, where did he "wash up" when he came ashore. Todd giggles and says Guam.
"So there's an island somewhere between Maui and Guam that has Tea and Ross stuck on it. You're gonna call Bo right now and give him this info."
Todd freaks out. NO! NO! NO! I'm not speaking to Bo!
(Hey, that sounded like a Dr. Seuss poem! I'm good!)
Viki resigns to calling him herself. We go to commercial and return to hear Todd telling Bo some final details. Then he turns to Viki and asks her if she's satisfied. She says yes. He tries once again to convince her to help him to get his kids, and again she tells him no.
"You're on your own, kid brother."
Todd tells her that she's being unfair. She has HER kids and she has Ben to help her with finding out what happened twenty years ago to her girls, so...
"Ben can't help me do anything, Todd. He's in a deep coma from which he may never wake."
Again, Todd is stung by shocking news, and he is silent. Then he turns to his sister and says softly, "Bummer."
Viki smiles, then says, "Yeah, bummer."
He flips through the pages of Jessica's baby book very quickly, then suddenly announces that he has to leave. Viki knows that he is trying to escape the painful atmosphere in his sister's home and she calls him on it.
"Where are YOU going so quickly?"
"I have some things to take care of. I'll see you later."
Viki stops him and says,
"I'm glad you're back. I've missed you. I'm glad you're safe and I am glad that you stopped by. I love you very much."
(Kaydee's comments: Todd has never heard so many I'm glads" coming out of one person's mouth pertaining to him in his whole life! I'd squirm, too! And Viki's goodness and love is contagious! I felt like I was watching The Ingalls family in action!)
Todd speeds off and Viki calls Clint back. She tells him that what Todd said about there being something suspicious about someone switching twins bothered her. She again promises to fill Clint in when she knows more.
(I have an idea! Ummmm, BRING CLINT BACK, maybe? They're his girls, too, you know! Can't convince Clint Ritchie to return? RECAST!!!)
ROXY'S "MAXI":
"Maxi"-mum security, that is! Roxyis bumbling around the Mill House trying to clean the place up for her dinner date with Max. The doorbell rings as she does her chores, and she hurries over to the door, thinking that Max forgot his keys.
Wasn't she surprised to find Jessica on the other side of the door! She greets Jessica, and Jess responds to the greeting with a stinging, reverberating slap!
Roxy asks her why she hit her, and Jessica says..WHAT! That's for what you did twenty years ago, and for the hellish year you put me through. How could you let me think that you were my mother knowing full well that you weren't?
"Who told you that? Was it Viki?"
"A DNA test told me. You let me care for you, knowing that you were lying the whole time."
Roxy babbles a defense. She tells Jess that it was her husband, and she didn't know anything about it. Jessica tells her that she has no excuse, because even if she didn't know what her late husband was up to, she knew that the baby girl she had wasn't hers. That's why she treated Natalie so horribly when she was growing up, Jess accuses. Why did she do that? How could she steal another woman's daughter from her and keep her away for so many years?
Roxy tells her that it wasn't her fault, and once she started she was too deep into the scam to get out of it. Jessica is that the best apology she has?
Roxy says yes, and Jessica motions behind her for two police officers to come forward. She shakes her head at Roxy and turns into Jack Lord, saying..
"Take her away, boys!"
Roxy begins to cry and plead for Jessica to delay the arrest until tomorrow.
"Please, Jessie," Roxy begs, "I'm having dinner with Maxi, and I know that this ain't important to you, but me and Max ain't never had dinner together before. I'll go to prison tomorrow, but let me just have this day. I worked so hard to get him to even look at me. Please.."
Jessica tells her she thought of that twenty years ago, before she took another woman's baby. The police drag her off, kicking and screaming, and Jessica walks away.
ALL IN THE FAMILY: REUNIONSPT.2
Resurrection at the Quarry...
After being rescued from Psycho Brat Holden's attack by Mitch Lawrence,
(I don't care what he's calling himself these days, it's Mitch! I don't care what the writers would want us to believe, IT'S MITCH! It's Mitch, ya hear? When that day comes, and he's revealed as Mitch Lawrence, remember that Kaydee said it first in her recap.) She thanks him for saving her from that creep and they begin to talk. Mitch, (I'm not changing my story, it's Mitch!), tells her that he noticed she looks troubled. Would she care to talk about it?
Natalie is hesitant at first, and he begins by introducing himself. His name is Reverend Michael Lazarus...
(See? Two clues right there! He's a "Reverend" and his last name is "Lazarus", as in r-e-s-u-r-r-e-c-t-e-d?)
She tells him her name is Natalie. He starts by asking her what Al's problem is, and she waves off Al as being an annoying jerk that she can handle. Somewhere down the line, Natalie vents all of her frustrating troubles on to this man. She tells all. Her family history, from childhood and up, her romance issues with Cris, and right back to her wonderful mother. Her real mom, that is. She realizes that she told more than she intended to the stranger, and she apologizes for rambling. She says that she doesn't know why she did that, and he tells her that sometimes a person finds it easier to open up to a stranger, and sometimes, the stranger may even be able to help.
He gets up to leave,....
(sure, he's leaving! He has all the info he needs to start his little evil plot! I'm warning you, little cult leader man! I'm a Whitelighter now, and if you mess with Natalie, I'LL take care of you!)
and tells her that maybe he'll see her around again sometime.
He leaves and Natalie sits back down on her favorite rock. A few seconds later, someone approaches her again. She looks up to see Jessica.
The girls engage in small talk, in which Jessica informs Nat that Roxy has been arrested for the kidnapping. Natalie is happy with that information, and the girls begin to put their rocky sibling relationship on the mend.
(I still have a plate of Crow Jessica hasn't touched sitting on my dinner table!)
MANNING MADNESS!!
Blair screams out for Starr, then drags her daughter into the living room by her arm and plops her down on the table. Starr is grumbling about being punished, and Blair tells her child that she hasn't even BEGUN to punish her yet.
"YOU LIED TO ME, Starr Manning! You knew that your daddy was in town and you tricked me into signing a document that would keep him out of jail."
"He's my daddy!" Starr screams in return, "and you are treating him like an animal!"
"He's a criminal, Starr! He's done some rotten things and he needs to go to jail to pay for them."
"But he's my father! Am I not supposed to ever see him again?"
Blair softens somewhat as she tries to explain these very adult occurrences to her child. She tells Starr that she knows how much that she loves Todd, but he's trying to take them away from her, just as he tried to kidnap them in Hawaii.
Starr is shocked by that revelation, but she doesn't say anything. Blair continues to try and explain that what's going on doesn't take away from the fact that both of her parents love her very much, but let's take a look at what has already happened since Todd returned. The first and most important example is that Starr went back to lying.
Starr gives her mom some sassy backtalk and Blair tells her that she is not allowed to leave the house. She and Jack will never again be alone at any time, and Todd will not be allowed to come near the house or the children.
She calls Suzanne in and relays the instructions to her. Suzanne tells her that she understands and will enforce the rules.
Later, as Blair leaves, Starr concocts a new plan. We find Starr and Suzanne racing to answer the door. Suzanne beats her to the punch and she reminds Starr of Blair's orders. She opens the door for Nora, and Starr sarcastically tells Suzanne that she can see that it's not Todd, so take a hike. Suzanne warns Nora that Starr is not allowed to leave the house and Nora assures her that she, too, will comply.
When they are alone, Starr tells Nora that she has something for her. She produces a wad of cash and plops into Nora's hand. She tells Nora that she has been retained, so that means whatever Starr tells her as her client, Nora has to keep her mouth shut, right?
ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGES!
Blair enters Sam's office and tells him that Todd has returned. Sam asks her if she's sure, and she said that she saw him in the flesh. She tells him that he's been back in town for a hot second and already the months of progress she's made with Starr has been undone. She has already lied to her. Sam tells her that if Todd comes back, they can have him arrested. Blair asks him how can they when they've been duped into signing a get out of jail free petition, or better yet, a stay out of jail petition?
Sam assures her that her restraining order is still in effect. He turns the tables and tells her that what's the most important issue is how Blair felt when she saw Todd. He wants her to be honest, and since she has never lied to him, he knows that she can be honest.
He mistakes her silence for hesitance to hurt his feelings and she sets him straight. She tells him that she still loves Todd, but when she looks at him, all she sees is all of the things that he's done to her and their family in the past year. She sees herself last year, crying in grief for her "dead" son, and she sees Starr lying again. She tells Sam that when she sees him, she realizes that she will not let herself love him, she just can't.
He asks her then what about them? She tells him that they are just beginning. They share a heated kiss, just as Todd bullies his way past Sam's secretary and into Sam's office to see the whole thing.
Did anyone else get a flashback of Todd returning from the dead to see Blair and Patrick Thornhart rolling around on the floor of the Penthouse?
TROUBLE IN THE SAINT'S CORNER!
Keri sits at a booth in the diner and calls Antonio. She leaves a message on his voicemail just as he enters with an attractive young lady who thanks him rather seductively for his help at the motel.
Keri is consumed with jealousy and eyes them angrily as the woman leaves. He turns to see her and is confused by her expression. They exchange small talk and then Keri blasts him. She's the one, isn't she? The one from the motel?
Antonio corrects her. She's his PARTNER on the force. They were on a stakeout together at the motel and she was thanking him for his backup.
And that's all? Keri says. Yes, that's all! She apologizes and he tells her that he thought she was past his indiscretion. She said that she thought so, but she lied.
They discuss it, and Antonio apologizes for ever having committed the act in the first place. If he hadn't, none of this would be happening. She tells him that he was hurting, and they were broken up at the time...
He tells her that those things don't matter. He should have had more faith in their love.
At that point, Carlotta enters, sobbing, with Innocencia comforting her. As they walk to one side of the diner, Liz enters and heads toward the side where Antonio and Keri are. Keri walks over to Carlotta with concern, and asks her what's wrong. She looks up at Keri and tells her that Innocencia just told her something terrible...
Antonio and Liz are both panicked.
