The Break Bar

Seth confesses to a stunned Jess that he is in love with her. He kisses her and she doesn’t pull away. Jess isn’t sure what her feelings are and she asks for space. Seth is more than willing to comply because he is sure of his feelings and sure that someday she will feel the same way about him. Seth leaves.

Llanfair

Kelly tells Viki about Todd’s extreme reaction to Paloma. Viki can’t explain any of Todd’s recent actions but she knows Todd is happy with the new baby. Viki reassures Kelly that Todd genuinely loves Blair and won’t hurt her this time.

Kelly and Viki are discussing Viki’s plan to adopt Jess when Roxy barges in. Jess can’t be adopted, Roxy says, she already has a mother. Viki points out that since Jess is over 18, she can adopt her whether Roxy likes it or not. Roxy says she lost both of her daughters and she can’t compete with Viki. Roxy swears she isn’t drinking anymore but Viki doesn’t believe her. As Viki and Roxy are arguing, Jess returns home.

Jess defends Roxy and tells Viki about the incident in the parking garage of the Palace restaurant. Viki is dubious, but Roxy lays it on thick and Jess buys her act. Roxy gives Jess a blanket that ‘she used when she was a baby.’ Jess is touched. Viki sees Roxy out and warns her that she had better be sincere in her efforts to get in good with Jess. Roxy swears she is sincere. When Viki goes back inside, Roxy calls Allison to let her know how well her performance went.

Kelly and Jess are discussing Seth. Kelly assumes Seth will have to get over his feelings for Jess, but Jess confides that her feelings toward Seth may be changing. Natalie overhears their discussion.

Todd & Blair’s Mansion

Paloma tells Blair that Todd ‘took her baby’ just as Todd walks in the door. Blair asks Todd what Paloma is talking about. Todd implies Paloma is telling the truth – he took the baby to the hospital, where it died. He didn’t want Blair to know that he was with the baby, in case she asked too many questions. Todd assures Blair that the baby didn’t suffer. He tells Blair to go upstairs and freshen up and then tries to get rid of Paloma.

As Todd and Paloma are arguing, Blair comes back downstairs with Jack. Paloma is shocked to see Blair with the baby. Blair doesn’t understand what Paloma is saying but Paloma believes that Todd returned the baby and she is happy that Blair knows the truth. Paloma gives Todd a big hug and leaves. Todd is euphoric because he thinks he has gotten away with his deception. 

Llanview Hospital

Al tells Jen that he can’t feel his legs. He begins to get upset and Gabrielle rushes in to find out what is happening. Larry comes into the room and does a quick exam – he’s not sure what the problem is.

Lindsay approaches Max, trying to ‘make nice.’ He isn’t in the mood and tells her to go away. Lindsay is surprised to learn that no charges have been filed against Cris. Max says Al told the police that it was an accident. Lindsay asks Max to help her push Jen and Al together. Max tells her to get lost. As she is trying to convince Max to help her help Al ‘win his true love’ Jen enters the room.

Jen tells Max about Al not having any feeling in his legs. Lindsay stops Jen from going back to see Al. Lindsay lays it on thick about ‘poor Al.’ Jen is sure Al will be fine – and that it was an accident. Jen wants to go check on Al and she does not want her mother to accompany her. Jen thinks Lindsay is happy about the situation because it might mean the end of her relationship with Cris.

Jen leaves her mother alone and Troy finds her. Lindsay throws herself into Troy’s arms and declares that he is the only one who truly understands her. Troy invites Lindsay back to his house to ‘chat.’ Lindsay doesn’t feel like talking, but she accepts his invitation.

The Quarry

Cris is looking for Jen’s purse and he finds Natalie. Natalie tells him she knows about Jen’s pregnancy but Cris assures her that it was all a mistake and Jen is not pregnant. Natalie thinks everything will be fine, but Cris isn’t so sure. Cris says it’s none of her business and asks her to leave. Natalie presses for information and Cris tells her about his fight with Al.

Cris confides in Natalie about his problems with Jen. He is afraid he will lose her. Natalie knows exactly how Cris feels – she’s having the same problem with Seth. Cris advises her to move on. Would Cris move on from Jen? Natalie points out the similarities in their situations. She and Seth were once in love the way Cris and Jen are. Cris points out that Jen slept with Al but she isn’t in love with him. Seth seems to be in love with Jess.

Natalie confesses that Seth was her first love and asks Cris how she can get over him. Cris maintains that since Seth isn’t in love with Natalie, the best thing for Natalie would be to move on with her life. Natalie isn’t sure she can do that. Cris wishes her luck and heads back to the hospital to find Jen.

Llanview Hospital

Gabrielle is crushed when Al doesn’t feel anything when Larry examines his legs. Larry tells Max and Gabrielle that it’s too early to know for sure, but Al is paralyzed and may never walk again. Jen and Cris are in the hallway outside Al’s room and they overhear Larry’s diagnosis.

Line of the Day

Roxy (gloating to Allison): Yes, Allison it’s Meryl Streep. I’m calling from the hallowed halls of Llanfair.
