ONE LIFE TO LIVE RECAP FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2001

<<< BACK TO RECAPS  INDEX

Renee is at the Palace Bar, staring at her divorce papers, when Max arrives.
He remains apologetic for his behavior, admitting that he used Skye and
Blair, and that he didn’t give Asa or Renee the truth they deserved. Renee
wonders at this continued remorsefulness, and Max responds that Blair’s
pregnant, so this makes all the difference. His other kids didn’t change
him, Renee notes. “Will you be able to put another human being first in your
life?” she queries. Max swears that he’ll be the best father he can be. With
the baby’s mother in jail, Renee reminds him. Blair shot him in the back,
and he wants her to pay, Max declares, but he doesn’t want his child to be
born in prison. Asa walks up and berates Max for his lousy parenting skills,
especially as they relate to Al. “That psycho, Todd, looks like Daddy of the
year next to you, boy,” Asa taunts. Max insists that he loves his kids and
that Asa is a good father who deserved better. Asa retorts that Max laughed
behind his back. Max muses that Asa’s other children will never know the Asa
that he did, and that even though he was a fake, he was the son that Asa
wanted. Max adds that he’ll be there for his child, the way Asa taught him.
“I owe you for that,” Max remarks. Not one to forgive easily, Asa dubs Max a
loser. “I win!” he gloats.

Max leaves, and Renee places the divorce papers before Asa. “You win again,”
she says, bitterly. Asa insists that Renee still loves him. “No, I don’t.
Not anymore,” she declares. After reminding him that he tried to kill her
only child, she walks away. Asa glances at the papers, then pulls out his
cell phone. “How fast can you put this together?” he asks the unknown person
on the other end of the line.

At Dorian’s, Todd raises his hand as if to knock on the door, but stops
himself. Inside, Kelly comes downstairs to find Blair already up. The latter
admits that she should have known months ago about her pregnancy, but she
was in denial. She doesn’t want Max near her child, she adds, as she worries
that the news will “kill Todd.” Kelly reminds her cousin that she needs to
keep Max around long enough for him to drop the charges. It’s so much bigger
than going to jail, Blair retorts – she hates that she’s having Max’s baby.
“Maybe you’re not,” Kelly begins. The women are interrupted by a knock,
followed by Todd calling out for Blair. Kelly tries to get rid of him, to no
avail, so she heads over to the hospital to see Sophia, leaving Blair and
Todd alone.

Todd sarcastically congratulates Blair on the brilliant way she twisted the
knife. Blair requests that he leave, but Todd refuses to budge. “Not when I
have so much more to offer.” Blair apologizes to Todd and asks for his
understanding. He claims to understand everything “except your timing.”
After all, he confessed for her, so he would have been locked away soon, and
she and Max could have been together. Blair insists that she doesn’t love
Max, but Todd is skeptical. What does she want? To go back to their wedding
day, Blair answers, and for it all to work out. “That we can live happily
ever after,” she murmurs. “It’s a fairy tale,” Todd retorts. He accuses her
of being pregnant at their wedding, and surmises that she would not have
told him that Max was the father. Blair, reacting with bitterness, agrees,
stating that she would have let him raise Max’s child as his own, since she
never wants to have his baby again. Todd counters that he never wanted
another baby, either – it was all Starr’s idea. Todd muses aloud that Starr
will hate the fact that her mother is pregnant with Max’s child. Blair
pleads with her ex to let her be the one to tell their daughter the news.
Todd promises that he won’t use Starr as a tool to hurt Blair anymore.
“Thank you,” she whispers. “I won’t need to. I have so many better ways,”
Todd hints. Blair wants to know what Todd has planned. “Soon it will all be
revealed,” he replies cryptically. At that moment, Max arrives. Todd,
exiting, says that Blair doesn’t want to see Max. The latter taunts Todd
about the fact that Blair is going to have Max’s child, and he dubs Todd a
loser. Funny, Todd responds, but those who have called him that before have
usually ended up losing. Using a chess analogy, Todd implies that he will
eventually win, since “I’m a master of the end game.”

Antonio arrives at the hospital bearing gifts for Sophia – some flowers from
“the guys” and a card from himself. Sophia is near tears as the man she
loves reads her a heartfelt message. The mood is broken by Roseanne’s
entrance. Sophia asks Antonio to leave her alone with Roseanne, and he
complies. Roseanne wonders what Sophia wants. “Can’t you guess?” Sophia
responds. Roseanne looks spooked, until Sophia explains that she needs
someone to brush her hair, since her arm is injured. As Roseanne does so,
Sophia muses aloud about why RJ wasn’t tipped off this time. She surmises
that maybe the informant got the wrong information, causing Roseanne to seem
decidedly uncomfortable. She quickly heads out. Antonio finds a rattled
Roseanne in the hallway, but she covers by saying that she had been worried
that Antonio had been hurt. He comforts her as Kelly arrives. Ms. Cramer
eyes Roseanne with suspicion, then heads in to visit Sophia.

Kelly’s gifts bring a momentary smile to Sophia’s face, but Ms. Pellegrino
soon sobers. Kelly guesses correctly that Roseanne is responsible for her
friend’s mood. Sophia insists that she’s going to nail Roseanne, but that
her limited mobility might be a problem. Kelly is reluctant as she realizes
that Sophia is counting on her to help.

Will is walking out the door when Jessica calls his name. She’s surprised
that he was leaving without saying goodbye – and that he came home so late
the previous night that they didn’t get to talk then, either. Will makes
excuses and heads out to work just as Ben arrives. “I need to find your
mother,” he tells Jess. Jess wonders what’s going on. Ben lies that he and
Viki have been missing each other’s calls, since it’s a hectic tour. Jess
admits to Ben that her mom hasn’t been calling her, either, which is
unusual. Jess adds that this is a good thing, since she has problems that
Viki wouldn’t be able to help her with. Ben offers to listen, but Jess
declines to elaborate. Ben is understanding. “Some things you can’t share,
even with those you’re closest to,” he notes. This scares Jess, and she
questions Ben as to whether there are problems between him and her mom.
“Nothing is any fun without your mom,” Ben answers truthfully. He reveals
that he’s hoping to book a flight to the next stop on Viki’s tour, so that
he can surprise her. Jess is enthusiastic, and offers to inform Ben as soon
as she knows where her mom is. He thanks her, and heads out.

Gina studies the information James has gathered on DID. She then watches
some of her surveillance videos of Viki, before giving James orders to keep
an eye on the prisoner. “When I get back, Viki will be at my mercy,” Gina
vows.

Moments after Ben’s departure, Jess has another visitor. It’s Gina, who asks
to come in. Jess states that she’s on her way out. Gina apologizes,
explaining that she was trying to locate Viki. She then turns on the tears,
and Jess invites Ms. Russo in. Gina mutters about needing to know “how to
deal with this.” She lies to Jess, claiming that a close cousin of hers has
been diagnosed with DID, and she was hoping that Viki could shed some light
on the subject. Jess is quick to respond that she can’t talk about her mom’s
illness, as it’s a private matter. Gina feigns understanding and pleads for
some general information. She ‘admits’ that her cousin goes from shy to
brassy in the blink of an eye, and Jess reveals that her mom was the same
way, but that she’s fully integrated now. The two women discuss whether
anything could bring the alters back, and Jess expresses her view that
nothing would. Satisfied with the knowledge she has gained, Gina heads home.

Will returns to the loft. He apologizes for being distant, and Jess responds
that she’s been too neurotic about Colin. They declare their love and agree
that it’s time to move on. Will insists that they deserve the good stuff
now, after all they’ve had to endure. The twosome kiss, but their passion is
interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Jess answers, and her face whitens.
“It’s my uncle Bo. He wants me to come down to the station,” she informs
Will.

Ben enters Gina’s and calls out for her. He’s greeted by silence. “Now what’
s going on?” he wonders. Gina returns and expresses her delight that Ben is
back. He admits that he’s even more worried than before about Viki, as she
hasn’t even been in contact with her children. It’s not like her, he adds.
Gina concurs, and implies that she thinks Viki is undergoing something big.
“I know exactly what happened to her,” Ben suddenly declares.

Viki is sleeping restlessly. The words “I have to get out of here” echo in
her brain, spoken in several different voices. She wakes with a start.
Moments later, James enters. He apologizes for not bringing her the beer she
asked for. “I don’t drink beer,” Viki responds, clearly puzzled. James
reminds her of the menu she requested the previous night, as well as her
suggestion that they become “friendly.” Viki recoils as he comes closer. He
states that she can call him Jim. “I’m sorry I ran off, but you took me by
surprise, Niki,” he adds. Distraught, Viki pleads with James to get Gina.
She’ll give her whatever she wants, Viki declares. “Even your husband?”
James queries. Yes, if it means she can get out, Viki replies. She begins to
get hysterical, and James heads for the bathroom to get her a glass of
water. Once he emerges, he’s greeted by a very amorous Niki. He’s confused
by her change in attitude as she flirts with him shamelessly. She continues
to come on to him, and eventually pulls him into a dance. Surreptitiously,
she slips her hand in his pocket and filches his keys.
