ONE LIFE TO LIVE RECAP FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2001

<<< BACK TO RECAPS  INDEX

Todd voices his dismay that Sam and Viki have yet to congratulate him on his
news. Sam suggests that Todd keep his life to himself. Can't he see he's
interrupting? Todd eyes the duo, then quips that at least they both have
their clothes on. They ignore his attempt at humor, and Viki retreats to the
library. Sam tries to usher Todd out, but the latter resumes his rant about
no one congratulating him for doing something normal. Sam informs Todd that
Ben is missing just as Bo arrives. Viki outlines her dream and tells Bo
about Ben's phone call. Bo reassures Viki that, if the men who took Ben had
meant to harm him, they would have done so by now. Sam inquires if Bo can
still trace the call, as he explains that he tried to contact the LPD
earlier, but got no answer. Bo phones the station to check things out. "You
can go now," Sam says to Todd, who has been quietly listening in. "This is
what you get for marrying a wise guy," Todd opines to Viki. "Get out!" Sam
yells.

Bo's attempt at a trace proves unsuccessful. They routed it through
Helsinki, he informs Sam and Viki, adding that this would seem like quite a
sophisticated operation. "What do I do now?" Viki wonders, disconsolate. Out
in the foyer, Todd apologizes. He didn't mean what he said, but "the mob is
a gift that keeps on giving," he can't help but remark. Sam, almost out of
patience, is not enthusiastic when Todd suggests that he could go look for
Ben. After all, he found Nora, Todd reminds Sam. Not that it did her much
good, Sam mutters. Todd expresses his displeasure at Sam's reaction. If this
was Will standing before him. If Will was there, he'd be asking what he
could do to help, Sam retorts. Todd goads Sam some more, and declares that,
once he's married, he's declaring war on Llanview. He'll be adhering to a
"take no prisoners, scorched earth policy," Todd vows. Sam wonders if Blair
knows about this side of Todd. His voice menacing, Todd warns Sam not to
even think of trying to talk Blair out of marrying him.

Sam insists that he won't spoil things for Todd, but he's not sure that
marriage will make Todd happy. They discuss Todd's attempt at therapy, at
which point Todd reveals that it's not all it's cracked up to be, and
perhaps he won't be continuing his sessions. Besides, Sam is alone and Viki'
s husband may soon be offed by the mob, so it would seem that he's the only
one who can hold on to a relationship, Todd sneers, before making his exit.

Viki vows to do whatever it takes to bring Ben back. Bo is appreciative, but
wants to see if they get any results from the APB he's put out first. He
assures Viki that he'll contact her the minute he hears anything, and he
promises that Ben will be found. Once they're alone, Sam suggests to Viki
that she try to get some rest, but she confesses to him that she'll fall
apart if she relaxes. The duo discuss Todd and his need for attention. They
express their hope that marriage might be good for him, but they have their
doubts.

Colin is waiting in Melanie's office at Cherryvale. He wants the scoop on
her confession to Bo. She's cool to him and tells him that she's not getting
married. Colin assumes it's because she told Bo the truth, and he rejected
her. "Bo doesn't know," she whispers. Colin muses that maybe the reason she
didn't tell Bo was because she was afraid that he would compromise his
famous integrity for her. Fed up with Colin's taunts, Melanie throws a book
at him and orders him to get out. He got what he wanted, she adds, but he
disagrees. Melanie threatens to call security, but Colin insists he'll ruin
her reputation if she doesn't do as he asks. He implies that he's taped
their recent conversations. Melanie's face registers shock. "What will it
take to get you out of my life?" He eyes the necklace she's wearing and
demands it. At first, she refuses. It was a gift from her father, she
protests. Colin counters that, if she doesn't hand it over, he'll spill all
to Bo and Lindsay. "It's not worth that much. Why are you doing this?" she
wonders. "Because I can," is Colin's cold response. She reluctantly parts
with the jewelry. He stares at her for a moment. "You love Bo that much," he
marvels. Yes, and it's something Colin will never understand, Melanie
opines. He does, more than she'll ever know, Colin retorts, before taking
his leave.

Once Colin arrives home, he enters the room where he kept Nora captive. He
opens the door to the armoire and gazes at the shrine he's erected in her
honor. He places Lanie's necklace on Nora's photo and smiles.

Asa and Nora are meeting at the Palace. He expresses his doubts about her
plan to entrap Colin, but she refuses to be swayed. Asa praises his former
daughter-in-law's spunk and expresses his wish that she was still a part of
his family. Nora sees through his words and wonders what he's up to. He
muses that Bo should be by her side, protecting her. Asa adds that, if she
were to throw her hat in the ring, he's sure she would win Bo, engagement or
not. Nora is stunned to hear the news of Bo's engagement. Nora assures Asa
that she and Bo will not be picking up where they left off. She's about to
leave, when Max arrives. "Nora, I'd like you to meet your new bodyguard,"
Asa announces.

After explaining Nora's plan to Max, Asa pours on the charm in order to talk
Nora into accepting Max's assistance. Nora expresses her doubts, worried
that Colin's suspicions will be aroused at the sight of Max following her
everywhere. Max does his best to convince her that he will be an asset, not
a liability. Nora then questions whether she can actually count on Max to
protect her, given that she's defending the woman who is accused of shooting
him in the back. Asa promises that, if Max screws up in any way, Asa will
have his son's hide. Nora eventually agrees. Max is keen to talk strategy,
but Asa requests a moment alone with Nora. The elder Buchanan takes the
opportunity to attempt, once again, to persuade Nora to go after Bo,
explaining that he doesn't want her to reach his age and have the same kind
of regrets he has now. "My sights are on Colin," Nora reminds Asa. While she
appreciates his concern, she intends to live in the present. Max returns,
and the trio discuss how they'll proceed. Nora declares that she knows just
how to appeal to Colin - through his ego, since he's a womanizer. Max should
be able to relate to that, she adds. "Getting them to fall for me is no
problem. It's keeping them from shooting me that's hard," Max quips. Taken
with his sense of humor, Nora figures that this might just work. She heads
off to complete some unfinished business with Bo.

Bo, meanwhile, calls Melanie. He asks her for a date, but she makes excuses.
"Maybe we shouldn't see each other for a while," she suggests. Bo, although
clearly disappointed, urges Lanie to take as much time as she needs. He'll
be waiting, he assures her.  Moments later, Lanie is surprised to see Asa
walking into her office. He's there to offer his congratulations on her
engagement, he smiles. She informs him that there will be no wedding. She
surmises that he's probably relieved, and she tells him that she just wants
Bo to be happy. He has a feeling Bo will be, Asa responds, as he exits.

Nora enters Bo's office, but he's not there. As she reaches for some paper
to leave him a note, she knocks over the engagement ring he had purchased
for Lanie. Nora admires it, then slips it on her finger, just as Bo enters.

Joey strides into the police station, ranting about the fact that his car
was towed from a perfectly legal parking spot. He's becoming verbally
abusive with an officer when Sophia steps in to defuse the situation. Once
they're alone, she surmises that his mood has to do with Kelly. Joey
explains how he and Kelly ended up on the Palace roof. Sophia informs him
that she saw the flowers he sent herself - he's busted. Joey denies sending
Kelly anything, claiming his being at the Palace was pure coincidence.
Sophia finds this hard to believe.

Across town, Blair insists that she needs someone to talk to. Kelly reminds
her cousin of the ways in which she's taken advantage of her before, and she
moves to show Blair the door. Blair blurts out that Todd has asked her to
marry him, and she said yes. "You're right. You are crazy," Kelly states,
before adding that Todd has always brought out the worst in Blair. Blair
muses aloud about how Todd thought she was a different person when she was
with Max. She sounds like she's been brainwashed, Kelly declares to her
cousin. "Get out of this any way you can," she suggests. Kelly continues
trying to convince Blair that Todd is nothing but bad news. Blair counters
that maybe she is crazy, and that's why she's drawn to Todd. Kelly urges
Blair to put the brakes on before she self-destructs, as she can't think of
anything more frightening than Blair marrying that man. She can, Blair
retorts - that she might actually be happy with him. Kelly can't believe
that Blair cares about Todd. He would do anything for her, Blair assures
Kelly, who attempts, vainly, to talk some sense into her cousin. Blair,
however, seems to delight in her twisted relationship with Todd. "Do you
love him?" Kelly queries. "I think I do," Blair replies, but adds that she's
not sure she's ready to marry him. "Do what's best for you," Kelly offers.
"I'll do what I have to," is Blair's rejoinder.

As Blair goes to meet Todd, she's blinded by popping flashbulbs. Todd
approaches and informs her that it's a press conference to announce their
engagement. "Don't blow this," he whispers.

Meanwhile, Kelly reads an e-mail from 'Joey', in which he apologizes for the
incident on the Palace roof. He asks her to come to meet him at "their tree"
, and he promises it will be the last time. Kelly ponders this as Charlie,
the missive's true author, readies his gun. Moments later, an e-mail arrives
at the police station, supposedly from the mayor. It instructs the LPD to
suspend the round-the-clock surveillance on Kelly, due to budget
constraints. Charlie smiles as he re-reads his handiwork. Kelly gazes at the
message she's received, while Joey leaves the police station to retrieve his
car.
