The Station House

In the holding cell, Skye reiterates that she didn’t shoot Max.  Nora tells her that the prosecution will use the phone message to Max where she sounded angry and upset, pointing out that even if she is falsely accused, they will need every little detail about all of the players in the drama since Skye hit Llanview.

Skye begins her tale, stating that it was Ben Davidson that brought her to Llanview.  They had gotten married in Vegas and he wanted to have the marriage annulled.  She was looking to change his mind.  (As Skye tells the story, we see Ben and Viki coming home from their makeshift honeymoon, entering the house and kissing.)  She continues, saying that she hooked up with Asa because she wanted to hurt Ben when she couldn’t convince him to change his mind and Asa wanted to hurt him too.  She let herself be used once again.  (Viki and Ben open the doors to the den to find it filled with wedding gifts.)   She explains that it was then that she met Max and there were sparks, but they were the wrong kind; they hit it off badly.  (Max and Renee are talking to one another in his hospital room.)

Skye thinks that John Sykes could have planted evidence, stating that he has had it in for her since day one.  (Rae stops for a moment in the doorway, then walks over to John and they embrace.)  She affirms that if there is anyone she hates, it’s Blair; she is at the top of the hate list and she and Todd make quite the pair.  They scammed her into believing that they were out to do each other in and now they are probably celebrating and laughing at her. (Blair and Todd are in the Penthouse after their celebration.  There is a knock at the door and a special copy of The Sun is delivered to Todd.  The cover story is about Skye’s arrest.)

Nora states that Skye must have really hated Ben to join forces with Asa.  Skye says that she loved him and that he loved her; they were great together.  The ‘stuff’ in his past and his dealings with the mob made him feel that he couldn’t make a commitment.  Nora thinks that that sounds like an honorable choice, but Skye scoffs that instead he was soon engaged to an heiress, one that Nora knows well.  She explains that if she couldn’t have Ben, she wanted to make sure that Viki couldn’t either.  Nora is surprised that Skye would take on Viki and Skye has to agree that she made a lot of enemies.

Llanfair

Ben and Viki are talking.  When she seems pensive, he asks her what’s wrong.  She explains that seeing all the gifts reminds her of how she wanted things to be.  He promises her that he’s going to make sure that she gets everything she wants, but she tells him that she already has it; she has him.  They decide to open gifts and pick the one from Renee first.  There is a note that tells them that Renee had one of these gifts made for herself and that she will always feel a special closeness to them.  When they open the gift, they see that it is a photo of the three of them from the wedding.  Viki promises to find a special place for it and Ben muses that Renee doesn’t know how close she is.  They next gift they open is from Todd; it appears to be a shrunken head.

The Penthouse

Todd asks Blair if she is still planning on leaving with Starr.  “How could I leave you?” she asks.  He tells her that he asked her a question first.  She responds, saying that he would pursue her to the ends of the earth.  He agrees, saying that he never forgives or forgets and showing her his “Get List”.  She reads the list and is surprised at its length.  She tells him that it might be easier to make a list of the people that he doesn’t want to get.  He tells her that they have all crossed him and they will pay.  She asks if he would get her if she crossed him.

The Station House

Nora comments that although Skye didn’t get along with Max at first, when she was arrested she was in bed with him.  So things must have changed.  Skye said that things did.  They are too much alike; they each know what they want and will do whatever it takes to get it.  Nora isn’t sure that that is such and impressive resume.

Skye goes back to her childhood, stating that she never knew if kids liked her for herself or for her money.  Lots avoided her and so did her father, even though he always made sure she had plenty of money.  Nora asks about her mother.  Skye explains that she was in and out of institutions, trying stay sober and get sane.  She was left alone in a big house with a big inheritance.  Nora is surprised that she had no friends at all.  Skye realizes that it may be hard for Nora to understand.  When people thought she was dead, the whole town mourned for her.  Skye is sure that no one would show up for her funeral.  A somewhat emotional Nora states that they have gotten sidetracked from the issue, which was Max.  Skye continues that people have used her and left her all her life, especially men.  Max fit that bill; he did the same.  Skye adds that her feelings for Max were real; she loved him and his feelings changed too.  Nora warns her that the DA will suggest otherwise.  Skye explains that she was angry in the phone message because she needed Max and he was too busy to help her.  He hadn’t dumped her; in fact, he had moved her back into the mansion.  She is certain that he is the only person that loves her.

The Hospital

Renee criticizes Max for the way he spoke to Rae.  Max argues that it is no secret that he doesn’t like her; she meddled in his life and it could have killed Asa.  Renee defends her, saying that it is killing her not to know who or where her child is and that Max has no idea.  “But you do,” Max replies.  Renee says that she does and he tells her that he is sorry, saying that they all need a family; he needs her to be his “Mom” and Asa needs her too and she needs a child.  He wonders if emotional ties aren’t just as important as blood ties and taking her hand he suggests that they try to be a family, that they should do it for themselves.

The Station House

Rae and John embrace, then she steps back and tells him that Max is not her son.  The DNA results came back and there was no match; Daniel has manipulated her again!!  John tries to comfort her, telling her that she wanted to believe and even Max is better than not knowing.  He tells her that he is very sorry, but he knows she’ll get through this.  Rae remembers that the psychic told her that this would be full of hatred and bitterness and she was right.  She guesses that Daniel is probably somewhere laughing his head off.  She comments that he knows exactly who her child is and is the epitome of despicable.  John looks at her and asks her if she still wants to know who her child is.

Nora asks Skye if it is possible that Max was shot by the mob.  She knows that he has been involved in shady dealings and that he got the call about the possible hit on Ben, but Skye tells her that she is sure that it wasn’t the mob.  Nora asks about their connection.  Skye replies that they are not connected in the way that Nora thinks.  Nora reminds Skye that she needs details; her acquittal depends on it.  She reminds Skye that neither Ben nor Max would protect her and asks again about the connection.

The Penthouse

Todd tells Blair that he wouldn’t have to get her is she crossed him; she would get herself.  She would confess.  She almost did it at the station.  Blair changes the subject and asks why Sam is on his list.  She thought that they were buddies.  She is surprised by Viki’s name, too.  He explains that when he first came back to town he needed help and they lectured him, instead of helping him.  She understands that, saying that sometimes people turn on you when you need them the most.  She wonders how he is going to move Max up to the top of his list.  Todd finds that extremely amusing, then stops for a moment and says that he will announce to the world that Max is a fraud.  Blair reminds him that she was in on the fraud and would wind up in the cell next to him.  He tells her that she is Starr’s mother, so he would try not to let that happen.  Blair asks if the fireworks were the end of the celebration.  He asks her if she remembers about the price for his help.  She wonders if she’ll get a straight answer and he tells her that he is going to give it to her now.

The Station House

Nora tells Skye that she needs to spill the beans.  She needs to know how Max and Ben are connected.  Skye explains that Max helped to get Ben’s medical license revoked.  He faked brain damaged and Ben was blamed for a botched surgery.  Nora wants to know what else there is.  Skye tells her that there is no more, but Nora doesn’t buy it.  She thinks that Skye is leaving something out.  Skye tells her that the rest is none of her business, but Nora tells her that it is if it got Max shot.  Skye assures her that it didn’t.  Nora tells Skye to let her be the judge of that, but Skye refuses, saying that Ben has no reason to want to see Max dead; in fact, just the opposite is true.

The Hospital

Max tells Renee that they are already a family.  She points out that it is a family that he made up.  Max argues that it means everything to Asa and sometimes the truth can be more damaging than lies.  Knowing who his real son is could kill Asa.  Renee says that it sounds like Max knows who the real son is, but he tells her he hasn’t a clue.  He just points out that he may not want anything to do with the family.  Renee finds it ironic that she spoke almost those very same words to Ben.  She tells Max that if he knows who her son is he better tell her or she’ll shoot him herself.

Llanfair

Ben jokes that nothing says happy wedding day like a shrunken head, but Viki smiles and says that she thinks it means Todd is going to a shrink and getting some help.  She certainly hopes he is.  They decide to open one more gift, which is to Viki from Asa.  They open the box and find an olive branch, which Viki believes means that Asa is giving up the feud.  Ben comments that they have quite a collection of symbolic gifts and wonders if Asa couldn’t afford a dove.  She asks Ben if Asa were serious would it change his feelings about telling him that he is his son.  Ben states that he would be happy for the feud to be over, but doesn’t think that the hatred between them could ever go away.

The Penthouse

Blair asks Todd what he wants and he tells her that he wants information.  When she asks him what kind, he tells her that he wants to know about the secret that she and Max are keeping about Ben.  She denies that there is a secret, but he tells her that he knows there is because Starr heard them talking about it.  Blair is livid that he asked Starr to spy and tells him that friends don’t turn daughters against their mothers.  She then explains that it is not her secret and that it could turn a lot of other people’s lives upside down.  She asks him not to do this to her and he promises that he won’t tell anyone, pointing out that he didn’t tell anyone about Max when she asked him for help.  She wants to know why he needs to know this.  He states that this information is the price and wants to know if she intends to pay up or not.  She hesitates for a moment and then tells him that Ben is Asa’s real son.

The Station House

Skye tells Nora again that any other connection is irrelevant.  She explains that Max started sleeping with her when she found out that he was faking his brain damage, in order to keep her quiet.  He told her he loved her to keep his secret safe and then they fell in love.  Nora wonders where Max was living at the time.  Skye explains that he was in the Mansion, but so was she.  Asa hated Blair and had moved her in there and was paying her to break Max and Blair up.  Blair even tried getting pregnant to keep Max.  Nora quips that Skye would have done it for free and that Max didn’t leave Blair and just kept stringing Skye along.  Skye explains that the brain-damage scam came out long ago and she and Max were still together after that.

Nora goes back to Max’s being too busy for Skye on the night of the shooting and asks her if that is why she shot him.  Skye wonders whose side Nora is on, but Nora is quick to point out that she had better get used to that question; she will hear it a lot.  Skye insists that she never wanted Max dead; she still loved him and she wants to tell him that.

The Hospital

Max calls Renee “Ma” and tells her that she misunderstood him.  She tells him not to call her that and wonders if he would tell her if he were lying.  Max says that Asa has had a bad year and he wants to make it up to him.  He wants to give him the best Christmas and wants Renee to be there, too.  He reminds her that they love each other.  Renee tells him that she will think about it and he thanks her.  Asa comes into the room, commenting that he likes to see a mother and her son talking.  Max is quick to add that Renee will be spending Christmas day with them.  She reiterates that she will think about it.  Asa tells her that her stocking will be on the mantle and he tells Max that they need to get home and decorate.  He invites Renee to come home with them now, saying that Max could use both of his parents.  She says that his son is fine with just him and excuses herself.

The Penthouse

Todd is amused by the news of Ben’s parentage, saying it’s like him being a Lord.  He asks Blair if she is sure and she tells him that she is positive; she saw the names on the birth certificate.  He thinks that this could all be very fun.  He asks if Ben knows and Blair tells him that he does.  She then adds that she, Max, Skye, Viki and now Todd know the truth.  He can’t believe that the proud parents don’t know.  She tells him that it needs to stay a secret permanently, but agrees that it would serve Asa and Renee right.  Todd doesn’t understand why Ben doesn’t blow the whistle on Max and wonders what information Max might be holding against Ben. Blair assures him that there is none; Ben loves Sam and Will and wants to remain a Davidson.  The money isn’t important to him.  Todd is amused that Viki just can’t seem to get enough of those Buchanan men.  Blair reminds Todd that nobody can know that he knows.  He admits that he almost feels sorry for Ben’s finding out that he is a Buchanan.  Blair closes her eyes and rests her head on the couch.  Todd asks her if she feel sick, but she tells him that she is just tired of everything.

The Station House

John tells Rae that she is taking a long time to answer his question.  He sits beside her and takes her hand.  She tells him that she knows and that you would think it would be easier after all this time.  She tells him that she has decided that she doesn’t want to know who her child is anymore.  She questions who she thinks she is, saying that she doesn’t think finding her would make the child happy.  She is registered with almost all of the agencies; her child could find her, but they don’t want to – at least not now.  She tells John that it is time that she leaves well enough alone, even if it hurts.  John asks her how he can help.  She tells him that he can take her home and let her cry a little, maybe cry a lot and then make mad passionate love to her.  He smiles and tells her that he can do that.  She tells him that they must agree never to talk about her child again.

Skye asks Nora to talk to Max for her.  She wants him to come and see her; she needs him in order to be able to get through this.  (We see Asa wheeling Max out of the hospital.)  Nora tells Skye that she understands her sentiments, but that Max isn’t the jury.  Skye points out that the psychological impact on the jury of his not thinking she is guilty is important.  She adds that it may be difficult to find twelve people who don’t already think she is guilty.  Nora tells her they will get a change of venue.  Skye thinks that she had better get started on that, as Todd will crucify her in The Sun and Viki will do the same in The Banner.  (We see Viki and Ben heading up the stairs.)  She adds that Ben must know that she is not the real shooter; he knows she is not a killer.  She goes back to Rae and John, maybe John planted evidence against her.  That would clear the way for Rae.  (We see John locking the bible page in a strong box while Rae waits for him in the squad room.  Then the two leave.)  Nora disagrees, saying that John in too good a cop to do a thing like that.  Skye states that she is taking the fall for the real killer.  She thinks it must be Blair or Todd or both of them.  (Blair has fallen asleep on the couch and Todd covers her with a blanket.)
