Nat asks John why he's all the sudden so protective when he sees her kissing Paul. John won't tell her why he's investigating Paul, and she won't answer his questions about Paul, so they arrive at a standstill and speak harshly to one another with Nat ending the conversation. "If you want me to stay out of your life, please stay out of mine," she scoffs.
A large, rough-looking man tries to steal Starr's backpack. Travis steps out of nowhere to protect her, but he weighs about 80 pounds up against the man's 300 plus. The man just laughs at them and leaves without any trouble. Travis gives Starr a CD that he made for her, and with their hands clasped, he takes her to a garage where he hangs out. While she sleeps, Travis takes her money out of her bag and it seems like he might take off with it, but the writers just want to scare us a little. He puts the money back, and he protectively covers Starr to keep her warm. She has another silly cartoon dream that her parents punish her for running away.
At Rodi's, Nat demands that Paul tell her what's going on at the hospital and why he's got her in the middle of it, but he tries to turn the situation around on Kathryn. He says that Kathryn is a dirty agent, and she's trying to blame Paul for something that she did. Nat insists that John would never allow Kathryn to blame an innocent man, but Paul tells Nat that John is bad news. He tells Nat that he really cares about her, and he doesn't want her trusting the wrong people.
When she realizes Starr is gone, frantic Blair calls Todd and accuses him of taking her. Todd doesn't have her, but he breaks record speeds to get to New York. When they search for answers, Todd finds a picture of Travis, and Matthew says that Starr got an email from someone who wanted to meet her. Bo taps into her computer and finds Travis' name, but he wants Blair and Todd to let police handle it.
Adriana reveals her fears to Roxy. She worries about River and Shannon, but Roxy says she's going to show Adriana how to deal with Shannon and how to hold on to River. On the surface, Roxy seems to give her good advice; she tells Adriana to be herself because that's who River fell in love with. Adriana worries that River has changed and doesn't like who she is anymore, but Roxy replies, "You have to learn to out-maneuver him. I'll tell you exactly how."
On the roof of Nigel's hotel, River pulls away from a kiss with Shannon, and she criticizes him for loving Adriana. "Get real! What do you two have in common?" she asks. River says they have their love, but Shannon says he doesn't know what love is. "And you do?" he asks. He says she walks around acting cool, but it's obvious she's empty inside. Shannon retorts that she'll never be in love. She saw what it did to her parents, and she won't go through that. She stomps away, saying "Your loss."
Nat tells Paul that she doesn't trust him OR John, and she wants Paul to admit he's up to something. Paul confesses that he's sort of an opportunist and likes to "shoot for the moon" when he sees a chance, and Nat accuses him of using her as his next conquest for money since Adriana beat him out of $30 million. He growls back, "Have I ever once asked you about your money? Have I ever once asked you to pay for a drink? Why does everyone always think I'm up to something?" Nat reminds him that he WAS up to something with Dr. Long, but Paul says he was just trying to make her happy by showing her around. Touching her hair, he adds, "I'd do just about anything to make you happy." He walks away and leaves her speechless, but once he's outside, he smiles to himself.
Kathryn and John reminisce on the roof of the hotel. She asks him to come back to the bureau, and he asks why she came back to Llanview. She says she just wanted a change, and although she says the opposite, she implies that she came back to be near him.
