RJ/EVANGELINE/ANTONIO:KERI LIVES, DARNIT!
Flash over to the Palace..Evangeline sits diligently over a stack of documents, fervently scribbling away as RJ approaches. He starts making jokes indicating that he would like to spend some time with her. She tells him, very sweetly, that she would love to spend time with him right after her impending meeting comes to a close. RJ becomes more than just a bit agitated when Antonio, speaking on his cell phone, quickly tells Evangeline that he'll be right with her. RJ blurts out: "What?! You're making me wait because of VEGA?" Evangeline puts on a "Not-this-again!" She manages to smooth him over enough to keep him three tables away, grumbling to himself over a few drinks as he grumpily observes the meeting between her and Antonio. Antonio informs her that he has been reinstated into the police force, and he wanted to tell her first. He begins to apologize for leaving his position in her office, but she quickly congratulates him and tells him that Bo needs him more than she does, so go to him. They end the meeting with a hug and a handshake, and as Antonio turns to leave, he runs smack into RJ. UH-OH! The old tension rises, only now there's a saccharine twist...they share Keri's child between them, so they have to grit their teeth and be civil. RJ tells him that he hopes his life isn't taking away from his granddaughter's, and Antonio says it isn't. Where is she? With the sitter, but you're welcome to spend time with her tonight. I hope she isn't infringing on your life with Jessica. Not even close, they both love each other. Jess isn't Jamie's mother, RJ says, angrily. Never said she was, Antonio replies sweetly. Tonight, my house, be there. He walks away, leaving a seething RJ to return to Evangeline. RJ quips that Vega seemed pretty happy when he left, what did he get a raise? Noooo, he took a pay cut. He's back on the LPD. RJ's expression drops. They share a few seconds of tense silence, and Evangeline tells him that she thought he'd be happy. He IS happy! He insists. Then remind her never to be around him when he's NOT happy. He blurts out that of course Vega's back on the force! He can do no wrong! Never mind that he beats up on people whenever he feels like it! Because of him, Jamie will never know her mom..jamie will never know Keri's smile, laugh, or the way she brought sunshine to people's lives... Evangeline softens, telling him that she knows Keri brought a lot of warm feelings into RJ's life, and she hopes that RJ will hang on to those feelings, for Jamie's sake, and for hers. RJ assures her that he will, then excuses himself. He has to go pick up his granddaughter. Later, he arrives at Antonio's loft, where Jessica, who'd been cuddling and speaking lovingly to a sleeping Jamie, answers the knock at the door. RJ coldly announces that he's here for his granddaughter. Jessica is a bit hesitant at first, but RJ tells her that Vega granted him permission to take her for the night. Jess tells him that Antonio didn't mention it to her, and RJ insists that he's still Jamie's grandpa. Jessica assures her that she's not trying to dispute that, and she hands the baby to RJ while she fetches her bunny. Jess starts to explain that the bunny is her favorite toy, and she's teething, but RJ rudely cuts her off and reminds her that she isn't Jamie's mother. Jess says she's not trying to be, and RJ says: "GOOD! Because I will never let Jamie forget!" then he takes the baby and leaves.
TO CATCH A KILLER!
Flash over to the University...Jess, Marcie, and Professor Pervert..(oops! I mean, Steve!) Are all standing in the hall. Marcie excused her interruption, but she had to tell the professor how much she admires his work. You know how nervous Marcie gets when she's excited, so the other two spend a good two minutes waiting for Marcie's blundering to come to an end before they get to their business at hand. Jess and Professor Steve sit at a nearby table and Jess explains that she's doing research on the Music Box Killer and wanted to get some input from him to ensure accurate reporting in her paper. He is ogling her a little too appreciatively as they converse, but he manages to supply a few intelligent answers to her questions about the profile basics of a serial killer. She thanks him and leaves.
